Drinking recepticles, and is my mate retarded?

i personally prefer the drinks to be served in a proper glass, and feel a wee bit miffed when it comes in a standard pint jobbie, but not enough to worry - just a preference. The other two, not an issue really.

Fosters glass and wine glass instead of a Stella glass or champagne glass is just silly.

It won't taste any different.

Plastic will make a difference but if you don't have a choice then he needs to stopp being a whinger.

Not exactly fun when you go out drinking and your friend won't drink for some silly reason and is constantly moaning. Was it a good night, did he put a downer on it? Hate people that ruin my "good vibez" on a night out.

I would just be like "well it's that or nothing so shut up or **** off".

Like to think he would get the picture after doing it a few times.

Our local here by the office doesn't have glasses for all the beers they have on tap. Leading to them apologising and asking if it's OK if it't in a stella glass instead or something.

Never really understood it, it's still the same beer.

yea was a good night watching the Haymaker as a one-off 'thing I haven't done before'.

TBH boxing ain't that good a sport live in fact it's pretty awful. It feels like the super heavy weights are punching in slow motion as they are so huge, and then suddenly one falls over, you're not really sure why, the ref calls it and you all go home 8.5 minutes after they started swinging ... :/

1) Retarded, its a beer glass.

2) Not exactly retarded, it's his choice not to drink from plastic. I've had them in clubs, and I prefer a glass bottle but it's reasonable and I understand why it's done. I wouldn't complain about it, that is retarded.

3) Retarded. Round a mates house, may not have or does not want the lads to destroy the flutes. If I was in an establishment however, I would expect flutes and be fairly disappointed if it came otherwise.

I prefer having the right glass for whatever I'm drinking as the convention has normally come about because it suits the drink best, but I would drink out of antyhing rather than not drink.

Final question: Round other mates house - having champaigne. He gets it in a wine glass. Guess what -- he's moaning about it and saying 'May as well drink £4 a bottle plonk' :/ -- Sophisticate? or Spanner?

I think I would have taken the glass from him then given him the dog's bowl full of water.

Stella glasses are specialled designed for stella beer. I dont know if it actually makes any difference (ask in the "free stella glass" thread? :p)

Plastic bottles can make beer warm up much quicker than glass bottles.

Wine glasses can make champagne go flat much quicker.

i can see his reasons, but none of the above would bother me enough to complain about it or not drink at all.

First question fair enough. Its silly but they have different glasses in pubs for a reason if they werent meant to be used it would all be standard pint glasses.

2 + 3 what a plonker.

Are some glasses designed for the beer though? I thought some had a certain base that effects the head etc?
Pretty much all Lager glasses have small cavities etched in the base to act as nucleation points and help bubbles to form.

I'm guessing having "Fosters" printed on his glass damaged his fragile ego.

I had a friend who always asked for "Carling in a Stella glass" for the same reason.

I thought champagne glasses were shaped as such to ensure consistent bubbling and flavour :D
I think it is more fashion than physics. The narrower flutes slow the rate of going flat but I'm not sure if it makes any difference for the rate most people drink at.

Through to the 60's the Champagne Coupe was the height of fashion:

Plastic bottle wise I think your friend is just picky for the sake of it. He drinks Stella ffs. Drink it for him then falken punch his nipples with your Stella fuelled rage!

the glasses are purely promotional for this type of crappy lager

the same beer comes in cans and bottles..it makes no difference to the beer what its served it

certain glasses do now actually come with nucleation pads on the base of the glass (fosters is one) to ensure a constant head, but it makes no difference to the taste

as long as the glass is properly cleaned thats all it needs, the shape of the glass makes no odds

I find certain glasses 'feel' nicer to drink out, so I'd partially agree with the dick head friend, but I wouldn't complain because it wouldn't stop me drinking.

Have you ever made him a cup of tea? does he have that in a mug or in a tea cup?

if its a tea cup he obviously has some odd thing with drinks and cups, if its a mug, he's just being a retard for the sake of being one!

Secondary question. We went to a boxing match and he refused to drink any beer because to get past 'no glass in the arena' the bottles were actually made of very hard, non-pliable plastic rather than glass. So he doesn't want any for that only reason. Again, fair enough or retarded?
what kind of arena was this? none of the big ones in the UK serve anything in glass, and I thought boxing was usually no drinks in the bowl.

They're there to promote the alcohol that's sold  I'd imagine they come at considerable discount or maybe even free from the suppliers compared to normal glasses.
