I think that people have a side inclined to do good, and a side inclined to do bad. If left unchecked the bad side will become more prominent and more bad deeds will get done. People need to be set a moral traction point, in the past this has been provided by religion but now with aggressive secularism diminishing the religious establishment, a vacuum has been left and as a result people's inclinations to do things they know to be wrong are taking over.

my early estimate was wrong: I think only about 20% are good/uncorruptable and who wouldn't do bad stuff even due to peer/group pressure.

The thing is though most people do bad things because they lack testicles.

I'd like to believe humanity is mostly good but I call to mind two quotes by Samuel Johnson "As I know more of mankind I expect less of them, and am ready now to call a man a good man upon easier terms than I was formerly." so as it suggests the more I see of humanity the less I think I should demand of it and "The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.". Generally though I've found if you treat people with a reasonable level of respect it will be reciprocated so that's how I try to approach people - if they prove themselves unworthy of the respect I've shown them then I'll adjust my approach accordingly.

i would have thought its all three of the above , thats like saying everyone has done some evil , some people are good some are in the middle and some are just evil?

True that, just got back from my driving lesson and their really are some idiots on the road, as an example people crossing a road on the corner where chevrons are placed.
