Cargo sparks security alert at US and UK airports

Obama said they are 'apparently' explosive material. Not sure if thats theirs or ours or both though.

If they really were explosive, why have the BBC been reporting all day that they weren't, and the police told them they tested it three times and it wasn't?

Lots of everyday products are explosive in the right situations, hydrogen peroxide, benzoyl peroxide etc. Doesn't really mean anything.

Yes, so does anyone who holds a sound mind, but what does terrorists have to do with all of this? You cannot be that easily led and influenced.

believe me im not easly led, i think out the box every time this sort of thing happens.

my thoughts are, its an obama rating game

boring - my life will carry on as normal until I want to go on holiday where I'll be subject to even more stringent security checks, inconvenience and have to queue for 30 minutes in a hot small room with my liquids in a small plastic bag :o

They might have to shoot it down.

Because of a suspect package in the hold? Would that package be able to hijack the plane and cause another 9/11?

Why didn't they shoot it down then? They wouldn't get confirmation on the 'suspect' until it landed, or blew up.

And if it blows up, would they still shoot it down anyway??

It's idiocity. And showboating. Nowt else.

BE SCARED OF DEM TERRORISTS MAN, CAUSE WE GET TO TAKE UR LIBERTIES ARF ARF ARF

It's actually standard procedure for airborne security threats. If intelligence comes through that the aircraft is intended to explode over a large conurbation for example, it can be taken down in a remote, unpopulated area or out over the sea. What if the package in the hold was able to be activated by a passenger? Or someone one the ground with an ADS-B receiver?

There have been incidents before where aircraft with a suspected bomb threat or hijack have been vectored out over the sea with a fully loaded fighter on each wing until the credibility of the threat can be assessed.

The BBC News coverage of this has been hilarious. Just watched a correspondant explaining that they dont know what happened but the police have 'all gone now'.

Because.. it's just a load of fuss about nothing.

On the flip side, you know if the police had maintained their presence the BBC would be reporting that the police are guarding some ink and questioning whether we are putting our police force to good use!
