Do you believe in Life after Death.

Why do humans hold on to such ridiculous beliefs?

Because they've been brought up that way. And if they're comfortable in believing in such things then so be it. Some decide not to, some do. It's just one of the balances in the world.

I am too intrigued.

I think he is saying that the soul is immortal and the reason many of us have this deep seated belief that death is not absolute is that the soul has experience of rebirth and our subconscious is echoing this somehow.

That's precisely it. As you have a connection with your body and your mind, you also do with your soul. You have connections with the Ib [Egyptian] and your Sancita [Sanskrit] and have worked your way through millions of incarnations to be human, the pinnacle of physical existence whereby your main 'job' is to return to the Absolute from where you came. Being human you have the best means of doing that.

The reasons why the Hindus, the Sumerians and the Egyptians all firmly believed in an afterlife was because of their intense and constant connection with spirituality, the dead and the afterlife itself. These days our visions have got muddied by modern-day thinking and stresses whereby for a lot of that has faded into the background or become ridiculed. Society has evolved to the point where money and greed are more important than ever as the financial crises showed.

Hamilton's book "Is Survival A Fact?" details her discussions with the dead and their own realisations of life beyond death.

It's not ridiculous, you simply do not share the same opinion.

We can look at life after death in many ways, but from a scientific viewpoint we all know that energy is not destroyed, it changes from one form into another.

Our non-corporeal being or conciousness is essentially energy (electrical impulses in the brain), so who is to dismiss the conjecture that the energy that is in essence our individuality doesn't manifest differently after the death of our corporeal body.

it isn't just people brought up that way, many have not and find their own beliefs.

Yes and that. Many people convert to other religions because they find comfort in them. Having something to believe in is just comfortable, I don't know why but I find it very peaceful. Whenever I have had problems in life, I've prayed to God, and believe me or not (I might sound like a nutter here), but 99% of the time, the problems have been fixed.

I understand why some people don't believe in religion because it causes so much problems. And if there was a God he'd fix all the problems in the world. Those are just some of the examples. But it's not all bad.

No. Our brain is a lump of grey mush with various electrical pulses going on. Once one dies, those pulses all stop and that's it, all over, job done.

I think more that there is no 'death' I have been in incidents which I won't go into but I can assure you my survival was very surprising both to me and other people and I honestly feel that you cannot 'die'.

I think your reality alters somehow, you leave a certain reality (Through death) and slip into another, the one you left when you 'died' they 'see' you as 'dead', the one you enter they see you as 'normal'. A bit of a crazy/mad/weird idea, but then so are gods and heaven/hell to me :)

So, basically how Hindus believe once they die, they are born as another person, or animal even?

No, you are still yourself, no re-born mumbo-jumbo, to you you wake up and everything is 'normal', you are just in an alternate reality.

lolfallacies

Seriously what evidence is there for any of this? anecdotal tripe from the mouths of the delusional not counted of course.

I've seen no proof of life after death. I'm not religious so I've no reason to blindly believe in life after death. I believe life ends when the brain dies.

I am not religious, yet experience has left me with an open mind on the subject.

Do you believe that you have a soul or some equivalent that is distinctly you as oppose to anyone else.

Ah I see. Never heard of that before, sounds interesting. Do you think you end up in another Galaxy? Where there is similar life to that of earth?

There are too many stories of young children with detailed memories of past lives for me to dismiss it completely simply because it's cool in this age to be seen to be an atheist.
