SATA II or SATA III Cabels

Hmm

Just got a new Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H MB and it came with 4 SATA cables. Is there any way by looking if they are SATA III 6Gb/s compatible?.

While I am here I may as well also ask this. I was going to use some of my older SATA cables for my other 6Gb/s drives. Do SATA II cables work okay with the new SATA III drives or do they all need swapping out. The connectors are the same but not sure what the differences are?

All sata cables should work fine with sata 6gb/s.

At the full speed? Just wondering why they sell 2 versions if I can use the sata II cables?

Iirc the difference is something silly like sataII cables have a latch on them. I could be wrong though.

Fixed it for you.

I did find that I had some sata 2 cables which didn't work with my sata 3.

But in general, good quality sata 2 cables should work fine.
