13.3" laptop please

Received mine today too.

haz_pro: Sorry to hear your HDD was broken, I hope the new HDD arrives quickly.

Now all I have to do is install Win 7 and see if I can get the wi-fi working, probably something simple somewhere.....

All I also have to do is to try and remember how to format the HDD before installing Win 7 - it's an age since I last did such a process....

They wouldnt sent just a new hdd, so are going to replace the uni.

Hmm, i was under the impression when you install the OS it formats the harddrive aswell? Is this incorrect.

Want mine to work NOOAAAWWW haha.

Let me know how you find it.

When you start the Win 7 install, it tells you near the start if you wish to do an 'upgrade' or 'custom' install. Click custom and then you select the partition that you wish to install on, and when you select it... there are a few options near the bottom like 'more details'. If you select this you get an option to format the hdd. Do a quick format and the rest of the install is smooth, it installs very quick. It will auto detect your wifi just make sure you have your wifi password to hand. :)

Bad luck with the faulty unit haz_pro, hopefully the replacement will be with you soon.

Thanks, just waiting for the battery to charge fully - just as a precautionary measure :).

Have installed win7 ultimate 64 bit, nice and snappy on this laptop.. however I am just wondering what drives I'd need to install on this now. Can't work it out as Win7 seems to have them all if not most of them.

Check in device manager to see if any drivers need installing, once you have run all windows updates. I needed to install fingerprint reader and ati drivers.

Mine arrived yesterday, and I have been busy clearing bloat out and adding in my own ;)
Very impressed with the machine thus far, battery life is truly excellent !
Spent some time updating Vista (undecided on whether to bother with Win 7 on this, as I do not have any spare licences atm, so will involve cost !) and copying over vast photo, video and music collections. Installed and fired up Oblivion (more or less the only PC game I have played for any length of time recently) and found it runs just fine with pretty decent settings :D
Office 2010 runs sweet, as does any HD video I have thrown at the unit - very much a happy camper with this PC, and also very pleased with excellent price and speedy delivery etc.

Oooh, quick question - anyone got any recommendations for a bag/case for this size laptop ? Have a nice Tech-Air one, from a previous netbook, but not quite big enough (boo !)...

I have just bought a cheapy 13 inch sleeve off ebay for 4 quid......

Then realised i can get the EXACT same thing in the local pound shop for you guessed it... a pound lol.

Oooh, a pound, bit steep....but....will see if I can stretch ;)
Seriously, though, thanks - sounds perfect :D

Yeah man you cant really go wrong for a pound.

I was looking at the proper notebook cases like with a shoulder strap, but whats the point when you can put it in a sleeve and still fit it inside a normal messenger bag which i already have 3+ of.

Can't seem to get these ati drivers to work one bit and in device manager all i get is Device cannot start (code 10) on win7 64bit... yipppeee

That's odd. Which ones did you download?

Just checking which ones I downloaded and it was ATI version 8.652.1 at 173.5MB, from the Acer website and they installed and worked fine. It was for the TravelMate 8371G for Win 7 Ultimate 64.

well this is certainly tempting! :(

I currently have a Dell Inspiron 11z that I bought from the Outlet about 6 months ago. I used the savings made to buy a 4gb stick of RAM for it, a SSD and a intel 5300 a,b,g,n wifi card (and third antenna).

It's been great but I'm starting to play the occasional game (on low settings) on it. for the most part the games are playable on the Intel X4500HD GPU but I want something with a dedicated GPU in the same kind of size and weight to keep me happy.

So now I'm stuck with 2 options.....the Dell M101z which is AMD Neo II based and has the ATI mobility HD4225 in or this Acer Timeline lappy with the SU9400 and the ATI mobility HD4330. I know out of the 2 I would rather have the Intel CPU as the SU4300 in my 11z has been perfect plus generally consumes less power than these new AMD cpu's according to the various reviews I've read, however I can't help but think the 13.3" and 1.6kg of the Acer is a bit too big and heavy for what I'm looking for when I consider my 11z is 11.6" and weighs in at around 1.3kg. I imagine the difference between the HD4225 and HD4330 is practically non existent?

I'll be dropping my SSD in which ever I get as well as my wifi card hopefully.

Can anyone offer some advise on this dilema? :)

ATI mobility HD4330 is 'apparently' an underclocked 4530 according to the first few lines of this webby http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-4330.13973.0.html .. so if you really wanted to game take a look at nothing less that a 4330. If lucky there may be a way to overclock the 4330, if thats the case then you can game without worry aslong as you are plugged into the mains.

Just a thought.

Oh and cheers e36Adz I was being a bit stupid and going direct to Ati's website drivers, which just never worked but its all sorted now :D!

Thanks for that bit of info....comparing the 2 cards on that website seems to place the 4330 way ahead of the 4225.

lol this makes this a bit more difficult
