Ok guys.

This may have already been covered, but the general consensus is that Metro 2033 is one game that will be able to bring any current system to its knees.

I recently bought the game, beucase I wanted to see the eye candy and I wanted to push my 5870.

I thought the game would be horrible to play on my system (In signature)
Both becuase its a ultra demanding game and becuase its Nvidia endorsed and I have an AMD GPU

Instead, my system made complete mince meat of the game at these settings:

Res: 1920x1200
Quality: Very High
Dx version: 11
Antialising: AAA
AF: 4x

Obviously physx is off, becuase I do not have Nvidia, and the only two settings that could go higher are Antialising to MSAA and AF to 16x

Not sure what all the fuss is about really, game looks fantasic and runs like water on my system at these settings...

Anything I'v missed here?

Theres been some improvements with the new drivers.
but have you got tesselation on?
That kills it and brings no IQ gains....everything looks the same.

I did not see any settings for tesselation.....

Il have a look to see if its on or not.

Besides, even if it isnt, the monsters look great at the moment!

The two settings you have left are the two that ll make the biggest difference.

Also 'kills it' is a pretty subjective term- fancy getting fraps on the go and letting us know what frame rate you are getting?

Also set the AF and AA to 16x and 4x respectively, then say that your system kills it!

Considering that people such as yourself, will play most games with those settings, it's only fair that Metro gets the same treatment.

Haven't played it with my GTX480 yet actually, though I nearly finished it with my GTX470

Well Im getting screen tearing, so it looks like Im getting above 60fps.... which my monitor doesnt like.

Would the 2gb of vram you have possibly help the frame rate at all? Bearing in mind this is graphics hungry Metro we're talking about here. :)

We seem to have vaguley similar rigs, and I was not impressed with my frame rate on metro, low as 24, high as 38, probably lower given I was panicing with no ammo when there was the most action going on- being beasted by a librarian is no time to check framerates!

Would be intersted to know the framerates, as mentioned, maybe it is the vram- would be surprised but wouldnt put it past metro?

when in the graphics menu look for something which says direct x 11 options and click it, it's at the top.

^ I see you have AF set to 16x

Maybe I can set that as well, as its only at 4x currently, becuase I was expecting to see a slide show....

No 16xAF dosen't really affect it that much i play on those setting all the time on my overclocked 5850 in my sig.

the 2 biggest frame rate killers are MSAAx4 and DOF both or which hardly make any difference when running round gunning the crap out of monsters

I could probably do a afterburner framerate graph

That reminds me, my first impression of the game engine, is its very similar to a Source game (Like Half Life 2 etc..)

Obviously if you imagine a source engine of 2010 running dx11!

i kinda thought that too (sourciness?) running decent on my 5870 too (same settings as bigjimmy) and im happy with performance. Another 5870 comes in the post on tuesday too for some CF goodness so fingers crossed they work.

Might stop playing metro (just started tonight) and wait for the 2nd card so i can play it with more candy.

DOF and tesselation are balls on Metro 2033, tesselation just because you really have to look for it to see it, in general gameplaying mode you just don't notice it, DOF, well, it actively just blurs huge portions of the screen to simulate the idea you aren't focused on it.

Who the hell buys a £300, or a £50 graphics card to have a game choose to blur half the screen? In reality its just not realistic, its trying to simulate peripheral vision the blurry there but not really there stuff, but its a fairly small screen, and it doesn't account for the fact that in real life your eyes can move without your head moving, so in real life I can have head facing forward but just look in another direction bringing it into focus, you can't do that in game, so its just not realistic.

There may well have been an update, or better drivers to increase performance, but in general without dof/tesselation on you should be looking at not far off 60fps average, with 25-30fps mins, while with them both on you should be closer to 10-15fps min and 30fps average, DOF does the main performance "killing" though.

Also, there are bits that run silky smooth, I think most "town" bits are fine and dandy, its when you hit smokey/foggy/fancy lighty bits that the frame rate plummets most. There are fairly frequent parts in the game with terrible performance, the benchmark unsurprisingly uses the fancier bits more often so the performance people talk about with the benchmark will show up in game, but maybe not the whole time.
