For me its the emphasis on teamwork that I enjoy. You get points as a medic for healing people while they kill - unlike, say MW2, where you aren't rewarded for taking out aircraft so not many people bother.
The variety of the classes means that if I'm finding the game boring, I just switch class and it soon becomes fun again. For instance, I enjoy playing medic, but if I find I'm dying lots then I can switch to pyro for some unadulterated killing - a completely different experience to the medic.
The fact the scoreboard shows your 'score' and not your 'kills' (and deaths) means I am not constantly worried about my K/D ratio (which I was in MW2) and I actually enjoy the game more, its far less frustrating.
The weapon drops keep you hooked as well. Every so often a new item will drop and you can equip it to a particular class. This encourages you to use that class for a while.
The number of statistics that it has also interest me. E.g., number of invuls while medic, number of sentry kills as engie etc etc.
I admit, some games can feel frantic, especially if you're new to the game. My advice is to play as medic and follow someone who is high on the board (and a useful class - HWG, Pyro, Soldier etc) and see where they go, what they do etc... you also get points for doing that as well
