how amazing is team fortress 2 !!

TF2 is bat **** insane and doesn't mind telling you. Just have some fun with it.

Very much this.

Treat it as a laugh and laughs shall be had :p

Something always happens in a match that has me smiling (generally back stabbing rampages and annoying snipers :p)

Can you read? I said CoD/CSS are 'semi-realistic'. They don't have rail guns, zero mavity, dodge jumping, lightning guns etc. They aren't set in space or in an unreal dimension. They are set in realistic locations using real world weapons etc. I didn't say 'THEY ARE 100% REALISTIC' because obviously they aren't. I assumed (wrongly) it would be blindingly obvious what I meant.

Not really to me, realistic to me is games like Arma2...

CoD is quake with a different skin.

The guns, locations and storylines are totally unrealistic. They may as well have Ninja Hamster Men in Space, would be as realistic.

How can you have "semi-realistic" it's either realistic or it isn't?

What aspects of CoD do you think are "semi-realistic"? I'm very interested to read your response...

I'm trying to fathom how CoD is in anyway realistic... the guns are totally inaccurate, the game modes are totally unrealistic. The respawning is unrealistic.

What aspects are you suggesting are even "semi-realistic"?

CoD is "semi-realistic" because it has real life weaponry in it.

The mechanics aren't to spec though.

How can it be semi-realistic when the guns are so unrealistic? They are just skinned to look realistic, I'm sure they have got a lot of the rails and stuff wrong as well.

I just said the mechanics weren't to spec. So hence the semi-realisism.

I really don't get the neophobes banging on about how the game is ruined. You can still play the game exactly as you would before, if you don't like the unlocks, ignore them. It doesn't make everyone else more powerful, it just makes them play differently. They aren't upgrades, they're side-grades.

You can't ignore them because you have to play differently against them. In some cases you may even have to play in far less interesting way, such as against Natascha. Some are upgrades: Mad milk, Degreaser, Equalizer, Pyro's melee unlocks (over the fire axe).

Even worse are those that say hats ruined the game, totally irrational. The only irritating thing about them is the chat trading, but it's not like the TF2 chat was ever a mecca of rational and interesting chatter was it.

Many of the hats do not fit with the game's original style (and yes, I know that it is a matter of opinion, though quite widespread), particularly with the paints. I usually see at least a few players sat in spawn trading now as well.

I'm not understanding this at all.

If you don't like the idea of buying the items then don't.

And leave yourself at a disadvantage (even if items are sidegrades, having the option of a different item is still an advantage over not having the option).

All the items in the shop are generally discoverable in game.

Through a random drop system, which was criticised when it was introduced because it is random, which only really went away when they reintroduced the achievement milestones, an option that doesn't exist with the new weapons.

Many of the items, such as nametags, the dueling minigame, gift wrapping, noise makers, keys, etc. and the store in general stink of existing purely for making money (and it's not as though they were poor or losing money before). While I'm sure some people don't care, it also indicates a change in Valve's business towards making stuff for nothing more than monetary gain, something I don't think has been seen from Valve before. Personally, I'm not too fond of greed either.

The fact that buying is optional does not exclude it from criticism, even beyond the fact it does still affect you even if you don't use it (bought items can be used against you and you can no longer reliably obtain items without buying them). It certainly hasn't stopped the criticism against Activision for the MW2 stimulus pack (which I would actually consider better value (based on it being maps compared to virtual items, I haven't looked at what the maps actually are)), or for their indications that they are only looking to make money.

Only a couple of the unlockable melee weapons give you a distinct advantage. Axtinguisher, the equalizer and the ubersaw are definitely straight upgrades. The natascha is a horrible weapon and slows the game down, so it's banned in competitive play. I'll agree with you there. The mad milk is not an upgrade, it's a slightly different way of playing. Well, it's even that different - the role of the scout is still the same, he just has even shorter range while using it. The scout still heavily relies on his aiming and movement so the milk doesn't change anything that much.

I honestly could not care less if the hats don't fit with the original style of the game. Some of the hats are funny and the more the better as far as I'm concerned. Not having an option of useless weapons is not a disadvantage. Sure it might not be as fun for you because you might really want that huntsman, because it is indeed fun to use. But that doesn't put you at a disadvantage as a sniper.

btw the only 3 items that cost money and can't be found via drops are the noise makers, gift wraps and crate keys. All of these are optional and only for people that want them. They have absolutely no affect on the game whatsoever. Everything inside the crates can be dropped except for some particle affects for your character, but again not game changing in the slightest. Dueling mini games and nametags can be found via drops.

What? In April 2008 the Medic weapons were added, only gainable through getting the new medic achievements. In May 2009 the random drop system was added. The achievement rewards were around for over a year before the random drop system was added, so I have no idea what you're trying to suggest here

Besides, you can still gain the weapons through the achievements anyway, so soon you will end up with weapons you don't want, and have weapons you do. Then you can either craft to get the weapon you want, or simply trade. There's a trade sub forum on the Steam forums, there used to be a thread on here as well, somewhere. As it is, the system is fair for everyone, I don't see what everyone is QQing about to be honest.
