Virgin Media 100Mb Service

It most definately will. My local CMTS was upgraded to 2Mb/s upload recently, and since then the internet has been completely ****ed.

I could literally see the moment my modem was updating itself and from EXACTLY that point onwards the internet has been broken. I even checked the logs to double check and it's definitely the reason it's ****ed up.

Following up from this post....

Today they've totally scrapped the 2 Meg upload and downgraded everyone back to 768Kb... LOL

And guess what, the internet is back alive and completely stable.

After about 10 days the idiots finally figured out what was causing the disruption. Why did I figure it out completely after 10 seconds?

Cant believe it took them 10 days while I've been sitting here pulling my greying hair out!

Well to be fair they probably knew but needed to test it. I hope this testing is the reason the entire Virgin infrastructure is so broken at the moment.

Who in their right mind would authorize such a test on current customers without any notification and for such a long timescale? You could quite easily lose loads of customers. I would have cancelled today and gone back to BE if they hadn't sorted it out.

But tbh, VM (or at least my CMTS) seems to be run by retarded monkeys, and they most definitely employ retarded monkeys (retarded monkeys which also lie a lot). I wouldn't be surprised either way.

10 days of disruption for something which should have been noticed within the hour and fixed within 10 hours is disgraceful.

Ive read from a virgin media employee that you must take the superhub if you want 100mb.

I do hope not, I prefer to have my OWN router that i have FULL control over it.
My 50Mb Virgin Modem, can do beyound 100Mb, so i just need then speed increase..

Any idea if you can configure Virgin supplied modem/routers for things like VPN or changing of firewall/NAT rules???

10 days is not long to be on the **** end of VM service. I've had your issue for over a month and many people go through this stuff all the time. As people have said when it works it's great; when it doesn't you're screwed.

I've had my internet nigh on unusable for over two months, with a scheduled fix SIX MONTHS away (high upstream utilisation, AKA Students torrenting 24/7 on the uncapped 50mbit service).

The only way I got it fixed was by complaining to the ISPA who got Virgin's head office to sort out my problem, which was only possible because I was on Docsis 3.0 and they downgraded me to the lower utilised Doscis 2.0 network.

And of course now my internet has slowed down to 1.5 - 2mb in the evenings, and guess what - it's over utilisation again! Luckily this time my internet is at least usable. This morning I got a download speed of 11mb (on a 10mb service) so it shows the their
network is capable of the speeds if they didn't keep on adding new subscribers to an overloaded network.

Funnily enough it was working fine before they upgraded the upload speed...

It's like paying for an all-you can eat buffet but the only time you can get any pizza is at 7am in the morning. If you try to eat at tea-time there's only crumbs left and as soon as more pizza is served someone else grabs the plate before you can get a slice.

You should still be able to do that.

The question is - can I disable its router functionality, not will they make me have it in the first place.

And WTF at your second comment? Just cause it goes over an indicated 50Mb every so often, doesn't mean it'll support 100Mb down / 10Mb up.

“The brilliant thing is with the scale and power of our network we could run 400Mb today. 100,000 lapped up 50Mb in the past 12 months, that gives an indication that the market is ready for 100Mb.”

400Mb

I have said in another thread. What's the point of 100Mb if we are capped to 1.MB download FTP\NZB between 5pm-12pm?

I just rang them again and the lady says that downloading 200GIG in a 30 day period is to much :(

Because you have from 12am to 5pm to torrent full speeds?
