Which Sci-fi stuff will become true in your lifetime?

I dont think we will, the guy that decoded the genome has been saying the benefits from decoding dna have been overstated.

After all dna is just the blueprint, its not the result.

Proteins is probably where its at.

I think within 40 years or so we will see treatments which extend lifespans or retard ageing.

Don't see how that's a problem, If you can see the blueprint of two healthy people and one ill person and notice the obvious mistake in the ill person blueprint compared to the healthy people, job done. It was an issue of the time it take to see these problems, but now were down to 3 week turn arounds, it should be easier. This being my speculative assumption though, I'm not medical scientist.

I thought one of the problems was that we're so use to the keys on a standard keyboard depressing when we press them. So when we 'type' on a laser keyboard on a table say we're more likely to get RSI because the table isn't depressing when we type a certain character.

nah it's just really awkward, you can't type as fast because you're never sure if the damn press has registered and taping your fingers against an unyielding desk is irritating for long periods.

Well you say that but we have keyboards at work which depress but don't send any characters through. :D Maybe our keyboards are a bit 'special'. :D You know, crap. ;)

Kind of like Smart Fruit... malnutrition seeking bananas...

I think we will see some kind of mass produced Lighter-Than-Air or Propelled flying vehicle to be used as transportation for the masses. I know a DARPA funded project is a long way down the lines for that already... but something for large numbers of the general public that is simple enough to pilot that the average person can get a license for it.

Properly autonomous personal transport... i.e. a car that just goes where you tell it to without the need for a driver.

A fledgling asteroid mining program by autonomous, self-replicating, robot factories in order to build colony ships/ecosystems for use in the solar system.

Movement from keyboard/mouse to voice/gesture/thought for the majority of computer usage.

advanced Optic and auditory nerve piggy backing, for replacement of PC and TV screens and speakers. - Will also cure majority of blindness and deafness. The beginning of personal 'avatars' where you will see network links and reminders as prompts next to someone when you look at them. (Think the targeting and ID system that the terminator uses.)

Oops I really ought to be working not thinking ;)

that's for high altitude survalence which can stay in place for very long periods iirc.

mostly for use against the technologically inferior nations we're involved with.

Dunno about you but I wouldn't want to be in an office with a few dozen people all yelling at their computers or waving their arms around to try and type up letters.

best thing? A renewable energy source that isn't rubbish.

I'm thinking cold fusion ..

I'm fairly confident that fusion will be practically applied in my lifetime. The only challenges left are really engineering ones. The mathematical theory and physical models so far work fine.

thought one of the coolest things about the artificial eye was that they were able to "see" IR, bionic night vision anyone?

Well that depends if its a genetic problem then I guess it could probably be solved with genetics, although even then its not just a matter of replacing the code, because they have to destroy the old and replace it, so the new one becomes the dominant replicator. If your skin has a genetic defect how do they fix that? Its doubtfull we will see genetically tailored medicines and things like that.

I think most scientists, are moving away from the genetic code, and onto proteins.

but that won't help you with anything but genetic disorders.

This would be awesome!!!

Imagine the possibilities... as mentioned strength of a bear, speed of a cheetah, underwater running of a hippo...ok maybe not that one

Lions Roar!

Deep Strike Terminators/Assault Terminators and Dreadnoughts would be awesome too :)
