to cut a long story short I feel like I am being ripped off with sly. ATM i currently have skysports pack and entertainment pack which is costing us close to £40 and it isn't even HD. this is all in the mrs's name.

Looks like most of the new customers get the best deals. that is a fact.

basically i want sly hd with the sports movies would be a bonus. so i was thinking of the cheapest way of doing this.

so like i was thinking of ringing them up and wanting to be a new customer
and getting this installed at my nan's house she used to be with sky years ago. but if i got it installed there (sky hd box) then I can bring it to my house and cancel what we got at home.

(her tv is NOT HD it is sd)
does that hd box also have a scart input?

obviously I don't own her house either....

so anyway what should i look out for? or watch out for when i ring em and when they come to her place?

You can have multiple subscriptions at the same address, and be counted as a new cutomer each time. Just make sure that you use a different name and do not mention the other accounts. They do not get cross referenced, but they will refuse the application if you mention anything.

So yeah, just sign up in your name at your normal address, and use the postal installation option to avoid the engineer visit.

yer but atm we have sky at my address in mrs's name im sure they would clock on when i ring em up and give my address!

the only way would be for us to ring up cancel
and then rejoin a month later but that's long cuz we'd have no sky for a month

plus no gurantee of a offer - id like to wait until there is really good offer before i do what i want to do

I have just explained that this is not the case.

This will not work. Within a 12 month period from cancellation the account will be re-instated as an existing customer, rather than be created as a new account. So you would need to be without sky for over 12 months for this to work.

Are you sure you'll manage to get it cheaper as new customer??

Were with Sky, sports and a few entertainment packs - £50pm(ish).
We joined last month.

Can't you request a new box?

sly? how inventive....why do people do this its SKY with a K.

and your paying for premium products which cost, if you dont want to pay then you dont have the channels simple, sky arent ripping you off at all.

and new sky customers dont get the better deals at all its not FACT as you seem to think it is, despite what you may of heard on the internet from 1 or 2 people......iv been offered plenty of deals in my time as a sky customer over the years.

it just sounds like you want everything for nothing.

Actually, as a new customer taking an HD sub online you can get £85 cachback, plus M&S vouchers, plus free installation, plus a "free" newgen HD box.

Existing customers cannot get a deal anything like as good as this.

yeh and i bet the OP got a deal when he first subbed aswell as did most people and now hes complaining because its too expensive and as you fully know and failed to mention the cashback you linked to is with BB and phone aswell - so ultimately even more expensive.

its like mobile phones, you can get the high spec phone for free , maybe even a few months half price, but then you need to cough up the cash.

like i said, hes just trying to get everything for nothing.

You sound like you work for Sky.

It is a fact that new customers get the best deals.
We've been with sky for 12 years yet I always seem to see offers on sites like quidco and hotukdeals which are so much better than what most existing Sky customers get.

You've been offered plenty of deals like what?

Have you ever been offered M and S vouchers?

Half Price Sky Sports HD and HD Movies for a year?

Maybe you've had the Sky HD £10 pack knocked off your price too?

I highly doubt you've had any of these and are probably paying closer to £80 a month. We can't all afford such lavish lifestyles!

Agreed hence my post about my method of getting this without having to leave for 12 months :)

No it is not. £85 is for new HD TV subs. You also get £50 M&S. No existing customers can get this.

Why comment on things on which you have not looked into?

Leaving does not make any difference, they do not cross check the address. The result would be the same whether you quit or not.

Quitting for a month will achieve nothing as the account remains active ready for re-instatement for a period of 12 months from cancellation.

I agree but what I am saying is if I rang up sky and said I want sky back at my address (but use my nan's address) so I get their engineer to come out and install my sky + hd box at her place

the moment the engineer leaves I take the hd box back to my house and use it
then ring up sky and cancel the subscription we got atm in the mrs's name :)

I'm an existing customer - they offered me a deal when I went to cancel sports.

I don't understand why as an existing customer you would expect to be offered cashback though

Even though people are offered deals to start with sky ultimately the monthly sub reverts to a normal level at some point.

yes and that is when people jump ships or cancel and rejoin when a better deal comes out.

I don't know how people can afford to pay £60 or £80 a month yikes!

if you get a new sub you will be tied in for 12 months. You going to use a different relative each year?

Well you don't have to pay £60 - £80 a month. There's no way I would pay that for TV so I don't take most of their services.

no but do you see what one can do with 2 addresses?

if there is a good offer for new customers one can switch inbetween addresses and names if need be!

From what i've read on other forums and widely accross the tinternet is that they do check accross addresses so Jez's plans wouldn't work.

I agree yours will work but then you're still tied into the 60-80 a month or whatever that you say you can't afford even if you do get a bit of cashback.

Why not just ring sky and say you're looking to cancel and see if they do you a deal of half price for 6 months or so. Surely that'd be cheaper for you?

yes it would - of course this will be the first point of contact to speak to someone in their team to help reduce the price or I will cancel but I must have a backup plan!

I actually created this thread for when they have special offers.
sometimes during the festive period they have promotions to welcome back old customers etc - or really good deals for new customers only that's when I'm going to implement my plan!

I've seen 2 separate threads on hotukdeals in the last year where new customers got 12 months sky hd subscription for £28 a month
with sky world package - pretty good deal imo
but as en existing customer you never get deals this great

I'd have said existing customers probably would as it would save them having to install the dish and give out an extra box.

Like i said they usually offer half price or free for x amount of months anyway. The above deal is basically half price subs so i'd have expected you to be able to get it aswell
