20k 996 turbo

I'd have to have a team of mechanics come with me to check all is well before handing that kind of money over for a car which has done over 110k miles.

Still, it does like a deal and a half, which instantly makes me worry

Just out of interest, how much would that have been new?

90k ish.

Stupid people are more likely to succumb to negotiation, and to have bought a car they couldn't afford in the first place so be desperate for the money! All I really care about is the condition of the car, the previous owner of my car was called Ali Islam, some of my friends said I should have been put off by this! Result; I've exploited my scarcity as a buyer who is not a stupid racist!

Some people selling a perfectly good well kept car just cant see the point of a flowery advert, it just wouldnt enter their head.

This is the point though... "Some" people.

If it were my time driving around the country looking for my next car, I'd focus on the well written and well presented adverts purely to reduce the calculated risk of wasting my time poking around utter dross only to find that one "needle in a haystack" (which this car might be, who knows).

As I said before, the factor of my time measured in £ would make it more sensible to just concentrate on the cars that are being properly advertised, purely to cut down on the time it takes to find a good one.

He is selling a very powerful high end Porsche. If writing an advert to inspire confidence on behalf of a potential buyer doesn't enter your head then, well.

I doubt very much if he has had that car for more than 5 minutes. He won't have paid 30k for it a few years ago, I bet he has got his hands of a cheap car and is moving it on after running it for a bit.

Not how I want to buy a 911 that's for sure.

Personally I wouldn't touch it, and you'll prob laugh at my reasoning, its 10 years old, 5 years ago in 2005 top gear did a Porsche challenge and Clarkson used a 10 year old 1995 Porsche 928 and although it won the challenge it wasn't something I would like to own.

Crazy logic I know but meh, im weird :P

I bet you're glad i started this thread now :D

Do you think you could make a profit out of it Mark? What if you were to keep it for a couple of years? Profit still if continuing the service schedule? How much would servicing even be? Genuinely interested, no chance I could afford to insure, nevermind put petrol in her!

I don't understand? We aren't talking about a 1995 porsche here

Mark’s got the right idea. Buy cars that are cheaper than they should be...

Look out for poor pictures and descriptions, little detail and other things that would normally put people off. Those cars will have a low demand (as we’ve sown in this thread, some people are put off), low demand = a potential bargain.

Someone call the bloke in the ad above and get the lowdown on the car, what the worst that can happen. You loose two minutes of your life, a bit like I have writing this.

What on earth has a 15 year old 928 got to do with a 996 turbo?

There is no reasoning here. It simply doesn't make any sense.

I would do that just to ask how long hes had it, but i dont want to **** the bloke about.

I don't think there is much profit to be made but I do think that you could run it for 2,3,4 or 10 years doing 6000 a year and it would still be worth 20k

On the subject of the actual car, rather than the owners spelling... how reliable is a 100k miler 996 Turbo going to be?

The Turbo is a more reliable engine than the normal 996 carrera. They are race derived and supposedly bomb proof.

Depends what its had done recently.

Worst case you need brakes radiators and a couple suspension bits and its good by 10k.

Best case its had that done in the last couple years then its bomb proof, stronger than a non turbo.

I bet just being passed from buyer to buyer like a hot potato, each having some lulz before moving it on before it generates a 5k invoice.

It's cheap for a reason.

Thats how i see it, thats cheap motoring if nothing breaks not so much a potential profit.
