what does one do to become a sexual deviant ? and how old must he/she be ?
All the registers in the world won't stop kids being abused. I think the government are looking at revamping the sex offenders register and the crb system because it doesn't actually work.
Consider:
1) You can only ever know about people on the list - first time offenders and those never caught or registered can't be on there.
2) Someone on the list can still get a job with kids if they're prepared to lie about their name and address. I'm guessing they'd be prepared to cross that moral bridge.
3) The person most likely to abuse your children is you or another close relative, not some random who happens to live nearby.
4) The odds of any children actually being abused are tiny in comparison to other risks. It's like terrorism - more people are killed putting their trousers on than are killed by terrorists for heaven's sake.
Anyway. I have two young girls and I shan't be checking the list. I'm not scared there'll be sexually abused. They're more likely to fall down the stairs or be hit by a car. I barely even worry about those things, so why would I get into a tizz about the minute risk of them being abused?

It's nice to see the issue of sexual assault is, as always, a topic which results in reasoned and sensible debate.
Which is the reason such a list should never exist. People cannot be trusted with it - they let the heart take over the head and think doing completely stupid things is totally acceptable. Half these people genuinelly cannot see whats wrong with brutally murdering people who touch kids.
The answer to crime is not more crime.
Do you have anything to back up your claims?
Most American states/counties operate a publicly searchable sex offender registry, where it shows a map of where they are living and I've never heard of any nonces getting killed due to this (unfortunately). It's useful to know if there is a pedo living down the street if you have kids.

Hell, an 18 year old having fully consensual sex with a 15 year old could result in them being put on the register... even if she was only a few days from turning 16. Is that the same thing as abusing little children?

An 18 year old having sex (consentual or not) with a minor is still illegal regardless if it's only a few days, and they will be labeled a peadophile.
IMO relationships like that are wrong.
I'm biased, I have a kid sister, if she started dating an adult I'd knock him clean out for being a complete beast.

Yes, but that person would end up on the register, even though they are in no way a paedophile.
But you would agree that they aren't actually a paedophile, yes?
I'm talking about having your name publically viewable.
But they are!
The act of paedophillia is having sex with a minor, this theoretical adult has broke that law and has fallen into the category of a peadophile.
There is no real excuse, there is a cut off and that is set at 16, not 15 and 11 months 20 days. It may seem harsh but that's the law.
EDIT: They may not be a "beast" but they certainly are a peadophile.
