that right, my renewal is up at end of this month, gone up to £779 from £580. WHAT THE HELL! LOLOLOLOL!!!!!

i shopped around on go compare, found cheapest quote is £495, will switch over then!

Have you not heard of confused.com / moneysupermaket.com / etc.?

You should always at least use these even if the renewal is cheaper than before.

M.

Completely disagree, comparison sites are useless in my experience and quotes have always been a lot higher on them than when you go to each insurer individually.

Vastly easier to guage which insurers are likely to give you a halfway decent quote in the first place though, saves spending 4 hours filling in forms with companies who just give you a stupid quote at the end.

mine came back at £1200 from £600 lol

Shopped about and got it for £600 again. Happy enough to pay the same knowing costs have gone up quite abit it would seem.

In my experience it has always gone down. I phoned up on my renwal and managed to knock £35 off and got a complete fully comp package for £349 and im only 23. Im not a fan of these price comparisions and at best use them as a rough guide for a quick quote, This year my current insurance was £150 cheaper than the comparision sites with direct line. most of the top results wanted £500-£600

Have you never had an insurance renewal before? It will always be higher, as the lazy or busy will just let it renew rather than shop around.

bull! it is not always higher, mine has gone down every year for the past 7 years with directline then suddenly goes up by about the same £75 everyone elses has.
maybe you should pick companies better in the first place as those that found the good insurers have had the best deals uptill now.

I was quite shocked when I got my car insurance renewal quote last year – despite having no claims for a year the premium had almost doubled! I shopped around and got a decent deal for a lot less. I always thought that having no claims meant your next premium would go down… clearly not.

I think that their usefullness depends on you. I have not been able to better the cheapest quote on confused despite trying. On the other hand there are people with the opposite experience.

So maybe the comparison sites are great for your normal "beige" adult, but if you're trying to insure anything unusual or risky they ramp it up either in the hope you'll be lazy or not bother. When you look at some of the quotes you wonder how the companies get any business!

That's my thinking as well. Even if it's not by loads it SHOULD go down, not up.
I've now got a quote of £390 from tesco so i'm going to ring who i'm with now(zurich) and see if they'll reduce their price.

By following the advice from these forums on this issue I managed to get my renewal down from £461....to £275 by brandishing a quote from another company.

I just wanted to say thanks to all these renewal threads that keep popping up :)

oh noes another one of these threads :D

just because you have a claim free year doesnt mean your less likely to crash this year, if you got any grasp of insurance then the whole "it should come down" outlook would make the world a happier place

Your next premium did go down, hence you are paying less.

You would think that the people who underwrite insurance may get a better bonus due to higher targets to meet for new business than for old business retention....................

If you are with a broker as opposed to an insurer direct, they SHOULD do the shopping around for you - although they are still not guaranteed to be the best out there!
My only advice regards the comparison sites is - be wary of the cover! 9 times out of 10, there is a good reason why its cheaper than the rest of the market and by the time you've got like-for-like cover, the premiums are very similar!
