Sorry, whats pointless? Not sure I understand.
Hes trying to tell you, like I am, that for what this pc is to be used for its just OTT, some of the specs in this thread are almost getting "high-end gaming"
Sorry, whats pointless? Not sure I understand.
What I'm trying to establish is whether getting a better system will help keep this future proofed somewhat. As software and games are released in the future they will no doubt need better requirements so I'm thinking of what he is likely to do in the future rather than what his immediate requirements are.
Its likely to be processor grunt rather than GPU grunt so thats what I'm asking.
Well, higher end is what i'm looking for so that we have options in the future. BAring in mind that HD video editing is very likely then I don't want to have to upgrade in 6 months when he can't do it very well. Do you think these specs could handle that?

An extra £50 and you get an i5 build with the possibility of crossfiring 5770s in the future if your in laws are into metro 2033.
£508 total.
If you wanna drop it to under 500 then take the Patriot RAM on special offer instead of the Corsair and a F1 Samsung HDD instead of the F4 but I think these upgrades are worth the £8. That patriot ram just looks nasty to me lol.
Thanks again for the advice.
For my own sanity I want to ask a couple of questions but they may be pretty simple for those who keep up to date with the technology regularaly.
Is the Athlon 2 not old technology? Whats the difference, in real terms, between this and a AMD Phenom 2?
Looking at the clock speed of both the Athlon and Phenom theres quite a difference but not mot much difference in price. Would it not be a worthwhile investment to go for the faster clock? Or does that involve more outlay in the motherboard and memory?
I've just done a quick google but the descriptions went well over my head!
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. The 970 and 965 are the same price are they not?
I see. So should we later decide to up the processor, will the same motherboard and memory be suitable?
Maybe I should give him my PC and I get the new one![]()
the i5 is cheaper then a 965
/facepalm
only the cpu, the entire spec prices are well different.
AM3 has more future proofing too, and the ability to put a HEX core cpu in makes it a good choice.
