The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I'll try and add to what these guys have said, without bias*, as I have characters in all those races.

Caldari - Missile focused, strongly shielded. Very efficient way of running missions. Missiles don't need to worry about optimal ranges, just maximum ranges.

Amarr - Use Lasers so you have no ammo to worry about, except the focusing crystals for range. These change fast, and only the fancier ones burn out - the regular ones last forever. Use armour rather than shields. Ships look far cooler than caldari ones*.

Gallente - Use Drones, and short range blasters. This can make things difficult for missions, but if you just use drones it's "easy mode" although a little slow. Use armour rather than shields.

Minmatar - Tend to be faster, and use projectile turrets, with a little missile use. Can use armour or shields. Some ships work better with one or the other though.

*whoops!

Its also worth pointing out that Minmitar are probably the best overall for PvP imo.. But equally, their ships are the most skill intensive to get the most out of - They require all shield, armour, missiles and guns depending on the ship/fitting, other races are more focused, such as just shields and missiles for Caldari etc.

Honestly though, no matter what race you choose they all have strong and weak points. You can also freely train between them all, so it is not a huge decision that can't be reversed.

K, so I'm playing an Amarr character called katrellz, just going through the missions you're directed to after running through the basic tutorial.

I had a slight mishap with the combat missions, and lost the ship I was given by that agent, I'm resisting the urge to restart (I do have a tendancy to do that when I mess up, but then get bored of doing the first quests over and over) and going through the mining/manufacturing missions atm. I still feel a bit like I'm training random skills with no real direction, and am a bit annoyed at how picky the agent is over where his Veldspar comes from, but enjoying myself !

What ship was it? There are very few ships in the game that are irreplaceable, should be able to get another off the market fairly cheaply if it was a frigate. Join the OcUK channel in game :) Or better still, join one of the OcUK corps! (*cough* Xenodus Initiative)

PVP is in all of eve, by logging in you are consenting to it. High sec just means you're 99% safe and if you're not stupid then you'll creep closer to 100% safe. e.g. flying all your loot in an unfitted bestower or running missions in a 20 bil isk ship.

Don't restart, it might be the first time you lose a ship - it won't be the last!
Better to have it be a starter ship which someone will just replace for you than a nice one!

Is that the main OcUK corp? I'm looking for a corp but I'm a casual player.

Yeh we're the main corp and welcome more casual players.
We've got everything from players who seem to be logged in all of the time (I was also like that a few months back lol) to guys who drop by a few hours a week.

We don't have schedules of "all players must be online for a mining operation" or anything like that. You'll just make less money if your not online. :p

Drop by the ocuk channel and give a shout if your interested.

Is it just me or is recon mission level 2 unusually hard. Last time i lost a bc iirc i tried it again in a pimped out version with far better skills and drone but still couldnt kill anything and the respawns kept coming. Defo i think a mission for a bs or multiple ppl which i needed help with before. I tend to turn down the mission these days.

If that is the mission i think it is - you're not meant to actually kill everything. You either get the objective and run, or you warp out and the guy giving you the missions goes "theres more than I thought, we'll have to go with a different plan"
