Am i the only one who has a real beef with parents buying there kids adult rated games.?
The times ive gotten into arguements over this.

Yes. It is a game, what do you think is going to happen? I've been playing games like gta3 since i was 10-12ish, i am now a serial killer/rapist, but apart from that it's done no harm. I've also watched 18 rated films when i was a kid.

At the age of 17 364 days old, what difference does 1 day make? None! So what about one day on that? And then another day on that, and on and on.

To be fair, the internet is uncensored and kids are allowed free reign on that in the most part. That's more of a concern than some of the explicit content you might see in a game, which is no more violent than your run of the mill 18 certificate movie.

I remember playing GTA when I was 15, my sister bought it me she was old enough, hardly a gruesome game, no way would I buy a youngster a GTA game would have to be at least 15-16.

Thing is, these days when kids are bought these games the parents end up blaming the developers for the damage done to them, be it a stroppy moody teenager or a gothic 10 year old, I don't know.

None the less, would you let your 12 year old watch Hostel?

does my head in when the inlaws by my nephew 18 rated games (he's 10), they dont seem to bat an eyelid when they see the certificate on the cover.

i remember telling my sister in law (last year) about the airport scene in mw2 and how even I thought it was pretty disturbing. He still got the game for xmas..

ah well not my problem if he turns into a psycho ;)

I am a teenager and have played adult games for a good few years, playing these games hasn't suddenly given me an urge to kill people or try and blow up a building. I and almost all of young gamers have common sense, just because we shoot some civilians in an airport in a game, doesn't mean we will do it in real life.

obiviously you shouldn't do it
but then it also always depends on the kid
since not everyone is gonna be a psycho afterwards ^^

but i think the parents should be punished really but then again the age restiction on movies and such seems to be all over place nowadays anyway

Games like GTA 4 with content such as sex, drugs, gambling, drink driving, extreme violence, a lad I know his younger brother asked him what a prostitute he was 10 and was playing his copy of GTA 4

going to have to learn some day. not really a big deal tbh.

my gripe with some of the younger kids is that some can be very annoying in online games. some of the zit popping yanks are incredibly rude. it's probably keyboard warrior syndrome rather than the adult games/movies, although I am sure they aren't like that in actual life.

forgot that point entirely how anoying the little kids are online
and then you play a game which is 18rated or require a creditcard (mmo's) and you still cant get rid of them

Don't think it matters at all. Its a game.

If a kid turns into a psycho killer or holds people up with a gun before taking their car, then they obviously have a screw loose that was going to fall out some day anyway...

If anything, it should be decided upon whether the individual is mature enough and can seperate the world of reality and virtual. But really...I don't care.

If you are playing online on PS3/360(moreso) prepare to be very annoyed as you will run into many under 18s playing Black Ops in the very near future, most of whom who have had the game purchased for them by adults, who have not adhered to the game ratings imo.

GTA series is too adult for kids, but I dont see much harm in call of duty... yes you get the odd swear word, but I bet they hear far worse at school.... or at a football match! you always get a chorus of the "refs a £$£"$"£ banker" lol

Yes, it does matter. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

Does playing an adult-rated videogame turn a child into a sex-fiend/killer? Unlikely.
Does playing an adult-rated videogame have an impact on a child's development and perception of the world? Definitely.

Things are rated a certain way for a reason. We have restrictions to protect children from things that they shouldn't be seeing until they reach an age at which they can fully comprehend and understand what they are seeing/engaging in.

No, a 17/364 year old isn't suddenly going to turn mature and ready in one day. But that argument is utterly flawed. What about a 9 year old playing games about running over prostitutes? Or stabbing people with knives?

Unfortunately it isn't feasible to assign an age rating to each person, so what happens is a universal age rating by which to protect the majority of people.

Surely anyone with more than two braincells to rub together can see that music, television, movies and videogames have a massive impact on a person, just as real-world experience does. To deny it, is to deny that which is right in front of you.

Illegal to sell games to under 18's (if the game is an 18). But not illegal for people under 18 to play them!
