i7 920 on MSIX58M -> Overclocking noob, help please

The H50 is capable of cooling an i7 without any issue, its basically on a par with some of the high end air coolers, better fans on it will help though as apparently the stock corsair fan isnt up to much. There are many users on here running i7's with the H50.

That's setter. That was the conclusion I came to when I purchased it. I'll look into some new fans for it. I seem to remember some kind of h-50 fan club and some information on the best fans for it. I'll do some googling.

Just on 20 mins again my CPU just got to 90 degrees celc with the new settings. It was stable though. I'll try lowering further.

A quick question... should I change any of the QPI multiplier? What does this do?

The scythe gentle typhoons are good, however id reccomend two of theese.

Along with this cable.

This will allow both fans to run from the cpu fan header, and will allow speed control of both, therefore the fans can run quiet at idle then ramp up under load, power comes direct from the psu so no stress is placed on the mobo. And make sure the rad on the H50 is free of dust.;)

Uhm 90°C is too high for any i7 920 sub 4.2Ghz even at 4.2 I'd not be happy unless it was closer to 80 than 90.

If you are at those tems, the H50 might still be ok with two loud noisy fans but I'm sure thats not why you got it, check its fitted correctly it doesn't sound like it is. Is the block getting hot? Is the radiator hot?
