Moving to sheffield - Spec Me

Ended up with a place near West Street, with secure underground car parking, 1 bed, 4th floor, building ~2 years old for £475pcm. The plan being to stay here for 6 months, and then move elsewhere once we sus out where we'd like to live. That was 14months ago :)

West one(?) development above vodka revolution etc.. (or probably changed now as its a few years since I've been in Sheffield.

I used to live in Crookes (as a Student) but I wouldn't go back there now - every other house will be a student house, you will get woken up on weeknights (Wednesdays and Fridays especially).

I'd do the above - get a nice new 1/2 bedroom city apartment in the middle of town. Sheffield is so ridiculously cheap it shouldn't be hard at all to find a nice place.

Shame as it looked nice. :(
Holymoorside is nice, those flats have been on the market for ages though!

Get a firefox plugin called "Property Bee", very useful to identify the stagnant properties.

My left-field suggestion

How about a house on the edge of Walkley / Hillsbrough?

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-31233827.html

Roughly 0.2 miles walk to the nearest tram stop (Hillsbrough) which is 4 stops on the tram from HSBC on Hoyle Street - 10mins?

Unlimited weekly travel on the tram is £13.

When I used to live in Hillsbrough I always used to get the tram rather than drive into town - much easier.

I personally prefer a house over a city centre flat, but that's me :)

I'll also echo the statements about Sheffield being cheap, my 3 bed house is £475 a month - not in a rough area before anyone asks!

Nah, t'other end nearer Trippet Lane. West One does look nice, but imo you'd need to be high up.

lol, that's why I'd say be high up if you were actually on West Street. I'm not, and don't hear anything from there :)

I would rather get the train than drive. I presume it is near chesterfield station. :)

Yep I think so Im from down south so I dont know the area but I have taken the train once and I think its a few min drive.

FYI I know the guy that owns the flats so if your interested let me know and I will put you in touch.

Yah, the asking price was too hight, I think the 3 bed was up close to 500 at one point, but they are very nice flats, good soild walls, high ceiling and generally done to a good standard.

When I first moved to Ches Vegas. I used Blundells to find my flat, and they have loads listed in the area's you are looking in.

http://www.blundells.com/lettings/search.php

There is one in Queens Tower, Park Grange Road, Sheffield, S2, S2 3RU, which caught my eye ;)

They do look good I noticed them yesterday, what's the catch, far out of town and away from stuff?

If I were you I'd look for something the other side of the city too S3, it's much nicer and attracts a much nicer sort. The Kehlam island area is improving but thats from the base of being the red light district so anything is an improvment. Anywhere in the city centre area or even the infintly nicer Ecclesall road will be an easy walk assuming your not some massively obese waster.

Not at all, I am no expert on Sheffild myself, but there within 5 mins of the centre, and should provide good access to every where.

The best thing to do is have a look at them see which ones you like, and check out the area's when you next visit.

OK after looking for what seems an eternity I have what looks like a shortlist for my Sheffield visit. Here are the contenders

Bit expensive but seems to tick most of the boxes and comes ready with Sky and broadband at a cost I guess

2 bed place but in a less nice part of town?

Interesting location, dont think it will be that particular flat unfortunately.

Looks a bargain but as it is managed by a student letting place I am worried this too will be full of students and quite noisy.
