£4,000 budget for a nippy, fun car?

Gah so depressing this. I'd happily go for the 182 but the insurance is just insane!

Try Greenlight insurance brokers, google them. I was getting insane quotes for cars and they pretty much halved any of the quotes I got on cars they class as performance, such as the 182s.

How about you post a selection of cars you like so that we at least have a rough idea of what pushes your buttons?

Honestly, for £4,000 I don't know. The Clio 182 is looking like a good shout because it's fun to drive, nippy and doesn't look horribly dated. The only issue holding me back is the insurance. I would want to get the insurance down to around £1000

Must have earned at least 1 years UK private car No Claims Bonus in their own name (More may required for certain vehicles and/or postcodes)

:(

No it isn't. It's one of the very best "Hot" Hatchbacks ever produced. Ever.

Well I appreciate his time but it's absolutely rank.

Look at the back of the thing! Honestly, I'd rather drive around my 1.2 fiesta than that and I'm not joking.

Forget the strict budget for now, just post some stuff you like the look of.

Obviously stuff around the 2000-2005 period is more sensible as clearly 2009 cars are not happening at £4k but just for an idea of what appeals to you in a car.

It's rank, but yet a Clio with a bodykit is utterly stylish?.

Please, just buy the Mini and get it over with. Seriously, they were built for people exactly like you.

You are really asking the impossible. Either settle for a warm hatch, an older car for cheaper so you can spend more on insurance or wait save up some money and get some no claims.

No no-claims, 21, hot hatch. Insurance won't be cheap.

Because I care about a cars image. You need to take a chill pill and stop insulting me.

I noticed the 172's were a lot cheaper to buy. Are they much cheaper in insurance?

To be fair I can see his point. That Corrado does look horrible.

Well yes, but that ain't quite the point.

He's not just been discounting brilliant cars based on their styling and/or image, he's absoultely crucifying them with sarcastic comments like they are meant to be a joke. Now, fair play if he had masses of money to spend, but he hasn't. Then he finds something that he likes, but is moaning about insurance costs.

Am I wrong in thinking that an entry level prestige car would perhaps be a better bet? Something along the lines of a 318ci?

Moaning about "image" but loving a jumped up Clio just strikes me as lol. If you're going to be vane, at least do it half decently.

I've not looked at insurance for 182's but I can't imagine them being very different as they are almost identical cars. Avoid the 172 Cup's though as they are quite a bit more to insure due to no ABS, lighter etc

Firstly, the clio is far from my ideal looking car, I said this at the start of the thread.

Secondly, you're mocking me for caring about the looks of a car and then further mocking me for the car I'm considering based on its looks?

lol...
