New jobSpec me a car - 12k max budget

Point taken about the X5, although the fuel economy is better than you might think- mine averages 34.2 and it spends most of it's time doing urban driving. On a run it sees 37mpg without any effort at all.

Another suggestion that will have bags and bags of room. These were out of budget for me when I was looking last time...

And in 6-12 months time nobody will be interested in selling him a warranty so when it all goes wrong, which it will, he'll need another loan just to fix it.

Silly question.. but how come?

It's a good call, i love the kit you get as standard in the 7, but my missus doesn't like them really, though she does like the X5 :(.

Again.... same problem with age/mileage/warranty on E65 and X5.

Maybe I am talking to a brick wall.

Why not go and buy an S600 Merc?

Not many x5s in your budget/requirements.
2005> would be facelift I think, not sure if the engines suffer same issues as the olders x30d engine.

Quoting in support of what Fox is trying to say here.....

You won't get all ways for this budget - i.e. Low mileage <40-60k, good condition, luxo German esq motorway / performance cruiser in Diesel which you can get a warranty on so you don’t potentially face prestige car running costs.

You need a good car suitable for 20-30k per year that isn’t going to cost you a fortune to run and most importantly as you need it for work isn’t going to be at risk of being off road with big bills.

You could get 1-2 year old low (sub 10k) miles Peugeot 407 HDI / Citroen C5 HDI / Renault Laguna / Vauxhall Insignias / Mondeo TDCI etc though all of which will do what you want and have balance of mfu warranty.

What's the general consensus on the Lexus IS220D? I popped into my local Lexus dealer earlier out of pure curiosity and spotted one on a 56 plate with 47k miles on, it was fully loaded, i mean everything, reversing camera, Mark Levingson hifi and DVD player, sat nav, elec memory seats, heated and cooled leather, just everything i could ever want in a car gadget wise.

It was up for a little over my budget, but i had a chat with the dealer and i could afford the repayments and i'm tempted to say the least. I've not driven it yet, never had time, but i've arranged to go and drive it tomorrow. It's up for 13995 btw if that makes any difference/
