Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

I wish to God that Samsung had released the Epic in the EU... not doing so was a crime imo. :(

Just installed 2.2 from Kies and by god my Phone is horrendously slow/nigh on impossible to use!
The lag is worse than it's ever been before!!!

Would installing the custom ROm you linked resolve these issues?

Custom ROM with lagfix makes it smooth as butter, my friend has the device and its like lightning.

It should make the phone much faster and lots better for many reasons but it sounds like something is wrong if your 2.2 is that much worse. I'd look into known issues of that firsta

I wouldnt know where to start, I reckon I'll just install a customer ROM and be done with it.
Is there a custom ROm generally considered as "the best one" ?

OK, so Ive gone through the installation instructions, and run the update.zip, however my device does not recognise/acknowledge clockworkmod.
I tried to run it twice and it says
E:signature verification failed, installation aborted

Sounds Like you have recovery 3e on the bootloader which doesn't allow unsigned packages I think. You can change it back, think you need to flash something with odin, someone else can probably clarify.perhaps flash a new kernel that comes with 2e.

Yeap - found that that was the case, cheers!

Or you can just flash any 2.1 rom u have over odin. They all come with 2e.

Ive installed docs, which is snappy as hell, but I seem to have problems.
Whenever I restart, a warning message appears saying that some ui thing doesn't match and prompts me to "im feeling lucky" as I can lose data. (sorry, dont have the warning message at hand now)

The only actualy problem it seemed to have caused was that my updated google maps keeps quitting. I have now gone and done a factory reset again to see if it's the theme in that link that could have cause it, but now my phone wont boot :(
After the Samsung Galaxy swirley wirley bit, nothing happens, it just vibrates at x second intervals.

Tried to use Odin and flash back to older kernel, now my phone's stuck on the Salaxy S GT-i9000 screen.
Have I bricked it? :(

I pretty much get this, but with the screen I mentioned.

I can get back into download mode, but the kernel doesn't seem to fix it :(
Any ideas?

No...the guy i spoke to said it was bricked and it wasn't the first one they have had back....he could have been wrong about the brick part of course but i had a new SGS anyway.

You could have easily fixed it. As long as you can get into download mode anything is fixable. I reccomend you do a little more reading as it's quite routine thing to have the phone stop loading when messing about with custom bits and pieces and have to fix it via download mode.

I didn't have the choice...had no 3 button mode but the phone they replaced it with has got the 3 button mode on it so that was a bonus for me
