New-age Celica vs RX8

Would avoid the RX8, gorgeous looking cars, however very thirsty, and oil consumption issues I think. I got a baby 140 Celica, if I was you go for one of the 190, GT would be the best, looking at it now I would have gone for the 190 as it’s got a lot more poke than mine. If you do go for the 140 get a facelift version 03+ as the preface lift 140 had an oil issue, the preface lift 190's are fine though.

RX8 because of the rear wheel drive. The Celica is a bit more of a girls car as well (assuming you are a guy). Why are you getting rid of the MR2?

Agreed.

I use to own one. Great looking cars.

Poor on the perfornace side though with near super car running costs.

Real Shame..

well thats a tricky one

The rex has better power to engine size obviously with the ****le but I'd have so say the Celica (VVTI) is a far better looking car

Saying that i'd have an RX7 over both of them anyday

RX8 is better looking.
RX8 is faster.
RX8 is cheaper to buy but very expensive to run for what it is.
RX8 is rear wheel drive.

However,

The Celica isn't a bad looking car.
The Celica is slow for what it is.
The Celica is much cheaper to run.

Personally i'd pick the Celica out of the two if I was concerned with running costs. If I wasnt then it'd be the RX8.

Celica is only a worthy rival if it's this model

Even then, the RX8 is a proper FR sports car, and the Celica is a scrabble wagon.

If someone had a gun to my head i'd have the RX8 and put up with the fuel and oil consumption.

The Celica doesn't look as good, is wrong wheel drive and is a horrid place to sit due to all the cheap scratchy and flappy around plastics.

Watch out for compression issues on the rx8's rotary engines. I wouldn't mind betting that most rx8's with 50k+ miles on them will be needing an engine rebuild before too long...

RX8 if it was only a toy in which I would do <5k a year.

Celica if it was to be a daily driver.

The Celica was actually on my list of possibles before I decided that I really needed a 5 door for work use.

Another thing to bear in mind about the rx8, they are damned hard to get rid of. I had a hell of a job finding a garage that would take mine off me in part ex. I lost about 4k in a year on the thing! Unless you can stomach the costs I'd stay clear of the rx8.

Didnt you only just get the MR2?

Bout 6 months ago now, but I've never really managed to fully like it.
No luggage space is something that I thought I could live with, but I just can't take it anymore

I really do want the RX8 due to being FR and the better looker, but I'm agreeing with the suggestions here now that I should just get the 190 Celica

Before you even think about buying an RX8, make sure you have a drive of one.

Rotary engines are not to everybody's taste. I hate them.
