Rioting in London?

I think the day of protesting is pointless.
Cuts must be made.
If I were the government I would say:

'Uni can be free if you now pay to see your GP'

They would soon stop protesting against fees.
Or stop giving out unrealistic amounts in pension payments to layabout public sector workers who are approaching retirement age and haven't paid anything like the amount of money in that they expect out after previous governments (including the current) have been too gutless to tell them the truth.

Incidentally the government didn't have a problem applying common sense to younger worker who recently had their pension rights drastically reduced. This on top of the fact most are now going to have to pay for their own education.

would so laugh if we get an announcement tomorrow that theyre raising the student fee's to 10k a year now because they had to pay money to repair the damages from the protest

A show of union and support I'd say.

They are all a merry band of squabbling leftie kids high on power?

I haven't seen that.

I have.

Nothing more than a morally bankrupt shell run by London HQ.

When do you see SLP and New Labour together on a ballot sheet?

They are the same party.

2010 General Election, 2009 by-election, 2005 election.

What I find ironic is the people in year 12/13 (sixth form) that say "I will miss a day of school to go and protest about expensive education"

Having these protests will not change the result.

I also doubt the Government will do anything, who knows they might even be laughing at these protests and dancing whilst listening to Jamiroquai.

BTW This does affect me.

The fees are clearly stated and known before anyone starts.

Actually the fees are clearly stated and known only if you pay up front. How much does a three-year, nine thousand pound a year degree cost when the loan is repaid over thirty years at different rates depending on your future salary?

Are you omnipient?
I don't understand, only speaking about my own run ins with the NUS/S.

As two parties competing against each other?

Really?

I didn't see that.

Yep, can only speak about my constituency but they do fight against each other. They didn't actually fight against each other in 2005 as Labour didn't field a candidate. This resulted in the SLP getting a surprisingly large vote which suggests people got confused. Anyway, we are derailing.

This is the problem.
Everyone should be made to repay it. It will make people think twice about going to a poo uni, drinking the loan money and studying the historical politics of sociology with sports psychological marketing, then working at Asda on £13,000 and not repaying a penny.

Not so

You will know the principal sum involved. You can easily model the actual amount of repayments at different incomes at and over the threshold. It's simple mathematics really. Not that different to a variable rate mortgage really.

It depends. It changed the poll tax. I doubt it will make a difference in this instance but protests can change things if persistent and timed correctly.

glad to see that students give a damn. education is and should be a basic human right in the UK.

bailing out irresponsible banks and making students pay cannot be a good thing.

So why did you say 2005 general election then?

I have never heard of this happening in my life.

They are one and the same party. They cannot run against each other in Scotland.

People can't say 'that was Blair's Labour' and walk away from it still flying the red flag.

Labour supported Blair and his ideas through thick and thin, now its turn coat time.

Yes I see the similarities between these new student loans and mortgages, the sort of money you'll end up repaying, the redemption penalties, the length of the term. And people seriously don't think having to take out a second mortgage to get a degree will put people off?

The NUS should be billed for the damage caused to Millbank Tower or at least offer a donation for policing costs.

NUS should be charged for the damage, and charged for the policing cost. And it's leaders should be done for Criminal Damage and maybe Public Order Offences too....
