A nifty trick if you fancy an extended holiday at the end of April next year!!

This Christmas is also one of those good holidays.

No its not. I get the afternoon of the 24th off and that is it. 25h and 26th are a weekend, then back to work 27th.

Not that it changes much because I will be working right through the xmas (dissertation writing) but

The First Council of Nicaea (325) established the date of Easter as the first Sunday after the full moon (the Paschal Full Moon) following the northern hemisphere's vernal equinox.... Eastern Christianity bases its calculations on the Julian Calendar whose March 21 corresponds, during the twenty-first century, to April 3 in the Gregorian Calendar, ...Easter therefore varies between April 4 and May 8.
Glad that's clear then.

I get 28 days + bank holidays + I can take up to 10 days unpaid. I have to take the 3 days between Christmas and New Year off.

Oh, Booked :)

For you it might not be, but for every office worker it is. 27th, 28th and the 3rd are bank holidays so you get 10(.5) for the price of 3.

Personally I don't mind working at Christmas as there is nearly nothing to do.

Nice find indeed, in fact past year anytime theres a bank hol monday or friday I book or make sure im off that way I get a 4 day break.

In fact this year instead of taking off 1 or 2 weeks hols I battered my work m8s by taking off mondays/fridays... like every 2-3 weeks each month ! guys at work were so upset with me they told me im only allowed full weeks now lol

if your not going anyware then why not? its like u turn up to work... work hard and before you know it your on holiday again for 4 days off.... technicaly mondays the worst day of the week for me, and then friday is a bad and good day, its bad cos your nackered but happy cos your off for 2 days, so all I did was expand on that feeling.

I usually try to work Christmas day. Flying to Thailand this time though!

You're flying on xmas day?

Well the way it works in most hotels, is that you get time and a half for xmas eve/boxing day, and triple pay on xmas day. But in this hotel we get normal pay + a £10-20 sainsburys voucher. :/

But yeah I'm not bothered about working xmas DAY (Will be flying to SEA myself shortly after xmas, so the cash would be handy). But I work nights, which means if I work I miss the traditional xmas eve pee-up, which is always awesome.

I missed last years so don't want to miss this one too.

A little bump for this.... because the Willie and Kate are getting married and the 29th will be a Bank Holiday, only 3 days need to be taken off now instead of the 4!! :D

Beaten to it - just realised this while watching the news at lunch! But hurrah! :D

Sorry to burst your bubble but most companies will figure this is in to your total entitlement.

28 days by law plus say 7 or 8 for "public" holidays. If the company you work for is open for business on Easter Monday and you take it as a holiday it will be taken from your total entitlement.

No "public" holidays are guaranteed by law - only by what your contract is.

I think it depends on the industry etc

Retail, support, large companies are going to be open all the time so you would probably get the BH added to your allowance.

Small/office based are probably going to have allowance + BH as they will close on bank holidays.

I've just noticed something that may give you all a nice long break at the end of April next year. Due to the vagaries of Easter being movable (I was raised a Catholic and I've still no idea how the guy managed to die any time between March and May )

Always wondered this too? They managed to fix his birthdate so why not the date of his death. Someone said it's the full moons that count or something still they could agree on a date. i love the end april weather in most holiday destinations is better than early march.

Looking to go to Cyprus this year perhaps.

Yes, they do. Most companies include bank holidays in your holiday allowance.

If yours doesnt, thats great. Mine doesnt either. But we are lucky.

exactly. Most companies do, especially since its risen to 28 days/year as a minima.

I work for a large company with retail and support divisions that are usually open on bank holidays with reduced hours, but we all get our holidays without BHs being in the total.

Just so I'm clear on this. Friday 22nd - Monday 25th is Easter holiday. Friday 29th is the royal wedding, so bank holiday and Monday 2nd May is a bank holiday?

If this is correct I could use 5 of my holiday days and get 9 days?
