WoW, just had a look in the M:M > F:S > 480'S coming up for sale asking price £300, one went for £260, l can see the asking price dropping further as more come up for sale...

About £250 would be the going rate atm for a used 480 in good nick, as they don't loose their value like AMD cards do for some reason.

You technically lose your warranty unless the seller specifically states they will help out arranging stuff for you if it fails.

Thats why I always think 2nd hand graphics cards are too expensive. They are not quite as unreliable as they used to be, but even so. And yet motherboard 2nd hand prices are always much more reasonable which are, to me, more reliable.

becaused ATI release new fater cards more often then Nvidia
NV 480-580 ~ 6 month gap.
ATI/AMD 58** - 68** 12 month gap.

Looks to me like NV have updated there range quickly.. And to say one does it faster than the other is wrong, this time NV did it because they needed to where as ATi/AMD is just the normal refresher.

I've had my 5850 for over a year and I got it for £210 on release day, I could sell it for £150 - so 12 months use for £60, that's good if you ask me. NV release 480 at ~£400(iirc), same as the 580 and now selling in MM for £250-£260. So they've lost £140-£150 in ~ six months. In all honesty you don't buy graphics cards as an investment but your statement is just wrong.

I won't be upgrading my card for the forseeable furture as it plays everything I do with ease.

I had a hard time trying to sell my XFX 5970 BE for a decent price. I was getting offers under £300 and paid £460 3 months ago :(

The 480 that just went fpr £240 on MM seems about right now that the 580 is here. There are also 2x 5850 going fpr £240 for the pair. Graphics Card prices always tumble after a new product release, even if it is only a refresh.

The big mystery is why do new 480's still cost upwards of £330 when 580's can be had for just £50 more? Nobody is going to buy a new 480 unless they drop below £300.

I wouldn't really call 1 new card 'a range'...
