WoW, just had a look in the M:M > F:S > 480'S coming up for sale asking price £300, one went for £260, l can see the asking price dropping further as more come up for sale...
You'd have to be nuts to pay £300 for a second hand 480 unless it was water cooled.
still perceived to be not as good for some reason.
On a side note, why do ATI cards depreciate faster in general?
NV 480-580 ~ 6 month gap.becaused ATI release new fater cards more often then Nvidia
Hmph. Not what you want to hear when you're about to sell an HD5850.
NV 480-580 ~ 6 month gap.
ATI/AMD 58** - 68** 12 month gap.
Looks to me like NV have updated there range quickly.. And to say one does it faster than the other is wrong, this time NV did it because they needed to where as ATi/AMD is just the normal refresher.
I've had my 5850 for over a year and I got it for £210 on release day, I could sell it for £150 - so 12 months use for £60, that's good if you ask me. NV release 480 at ~£400(iirc), same as the 580 and now selling in MM for £250-£260. So they've lost £140-£150 in ~ six months. In all honesty you don't buy graphics cards as an investment but your statement is just wrong.
I won't be upgrading my card for the forseeable furture as it plays everything I do with ease.
