I'm really starting to get sick and tired of people using text speak in text messages, emails and facebook updates.

Is it really that hard to type some coherent English? I don't expect perfect spelling and grammar, but something that looks and reads like English is definitely not hard to produce.

E.g.

Just attempting to read the above just makes me so angry!

Sorry rant over.

I had a go at my brother about this sort of thing yesterday, he's 5 years older than me and sent an official letter off about payments to somebody official in text speak, he didn't even realize until it was pointed out.

Its actually harder to write text speak than correct english. Thats what I dont understand.

Understand people using that in texts.

Online i dont really see the need for it. Im hardly a grammar nazi, as long as i can read it easily im fine with it. Having to decipher what someones trying to say is a bit far though.

I am too old to read that.

It would take me longer to write like that than just to type the whole word.

I can understand doing it on an old nokia phone but in a forum? Come on learn to type!

it doesn't bother me as long as i can decipher it in a timely manner.

i dont like Z instead of S, tho dat iz retarded.

It's all rather alien to me but the English language is a mix of abbreviations anyway so I dare say it will evolve and integrate other forms of abbreviations eventually, like it has done in the past.

Get use to it, that is the future of the English language right there. Won't be long before half this stuff is in the dictionary the next generation already accept it as normal and the generation after that will be raised by parents who find it perfectly normal. The beauty of the English language is the way it has evolved with time and consumed words from other languages.
