Is Half life 2 any good?

Im never played half life 2. Im tempting to get the orange box. Graphics look dated though. Are their any good mods that bring the graphics up to date?

Half life 2 is great just as it is. Get the orange box, you won't regret it

Also if you've never played Portal make sure you do.

It's a great game. Orange box is brilliant value, it was when it came out

Personally I'd use the Cinematic mod 'lite'
It keeps the environmental changes but not the other stuff which I dont like the mod for

The Orange Box is definitely worth buying. I don't know how desperate you are to play, but I'd hold out for the Steam Christmas sale.

there used to be a mod that changed all the textures to high res ones

Half Life 2 is perhaps the best FPS game ever created. I still think the graphics today are quite good and whilst they might look dated you have to marvel at just what Valve did 6 years ago.

I've played it through so many times, and i'm currently playing through it again now using the cinematic mod. Not sure about the new HD models, they look ok but I think its changed the look of the models and so my mental image can't adjust to them.

Anyhow, is Half Life 2 any good? A huge YES. Buy it now, or wait for it on sale.. Either way, fantastic game from start to finish.

Currently playing it with a Cinematic mod, gives it a darker, almost Stalker-esque feel to it. Play it vanilla when you do get it. It was one of the big title releases of 2004.
