Mondeo would have been a much better choice.

You've got none of the benefits of BMW ownership with all the downsides - could have got something newer, higher specced, cheaper to run that doesn't make you look like someone who just wanted a BMW badge. The black door handles on these are a dead giveaway that it's the base spec

You on the other hand have just spouted a proper load of **** and expected people to take it as gospel.

I don't really see why all the hate, its a cheap car for cheap money. They are cheap to run and insure and you get a well built car for the cash.

And they aren't badly specced standard either. Digital climate control, cruise control, auto dimming mirrors, electric windows all round with remote closure, heated electric mirrors, passenger mirror moves down when in reverse so you don't scuff the wheels, parking sensors, leather multi function wheel etc

All of which you don't get with most 3 grand cars. Ok its a pretty tragic engine which struggles to get over 30mpg and you'd get bored timing 0-60 it's that pathetic but if's just a runabout who cares. I had one for a bit and it was trouble free comfy motoring for a few months.

It's not a "cheap car" though. It's £3000, which is a lot of money for a "cheap car". Especially for a early E46 which are fast approaching the "banger" end of the car market.

And what's worse is that it has no notable redeemable features. It's not fast, it's not economical, it's not relaible, it's not well spec'd and (for reasons explained above) it's not "cheap" either.

Not really when you can get all that stuff on a car a third of the price.
 
I think they are gutless but still sell well in the same way that C180 Mercs do, some people do love a badge, on another forum there would be plenty of back slapping in this thread :)

Also its not a bad looking place to be is it.
 
It does have redeeming features, it will still be worth something in a year or two unlike a 3 grand mondeo or similar. It's well built and the engine although miserable is solid and reliable.

120bhp and 10 seconds 0-60 so perfectly usable just not going to set your pants on fire.

Khans has the later 2 litre 16v 140bhp unit which gets it to 60 a second quicker.

Of course it's comparable. It's a "Cheap car". It apparently doesn't have to be economical (that that the 318i is a particularly economical car). It's quicker, it's better spec'd, it's more comfortable, it's nearly as new and yet it costs a fraction. How can you not see that in comparison the 318i is an absoultely horrid deal?
