Under Grand Central there Is some nice food to be found :)
Man v food have done a few places in new york, have a look at their website to see what and where :)

Lombardi's Pizza - the first "official" pizzeria in the US. I went twice and love their white pizzas.

Eileens Special Cheesecake is also worth a visit :D

The Spotted Pig is a good gastropub. Not cheap though.
Katz's Diner is apparently the best Deli in NYC. It's not bad, certainly worth it for the novelty value.

Nyonya in Little Italy is excellent - Asian Fusion/Malay cuisine. Cheap, too.

If you like Ramen noodles and Japanese cuisine, go to Ippudo. I didn't go unfortunately because I didn't feel like waiting an hour for a table (you can't reserve), but I've heard only good things.

Use www.yelp.com to get reviews, I've found it to be accurate.

The best sandwich you'll have is the skirt steak from Num Pang on University/12th near Union Sq. Their others are supposed to be just as good, but the steak is my favourite sandwich in the city.

Ray's Pizza (think it was the one on 7th Avenue). Swear I only asked for a medium, but was absolutely ****ing massive.

One thing I really like when in NYC is to go out for breakfast. Eating breakfast in the hotel is just dull, go to a good cafe with outside seating and just soak in the atmosphere as the day is just starting.

I'm going to New York with my girl friend just before Christmas so all these suggestions are great for me too, keep them coming :)

dont think i will be doing that on the 18th of december, may be a bit chilly :p

I've just got back from NYC, I will find out the name of a brilliant steak house we went too. You got the finest steak (can't remember the name) was $102 for it but it served too and was the nice god damn thing I've ever eaten. Melted in your mouth.

Anyway when I speak to the wife I'll ask her :D
