Bread

Packet bread has definitely been getting worse and with no baker in town any more and, according to the staff, Sainsburys reheating frozen loaves there is nowhere to get edible bread round here. This is why I bake my own now. I do about 1-2 loaves a week.

4 ingredients: flour, water, yeast, salt.

Maybe you should open a shop?

Get a bread maker / problem solved.

Lovely bread fresh and the smell when you go downstairs on a morning to freshly cooked bread is niceeeeee

Couldn't agree more. I set mine to finish at 7am ready for when I get up :)

I very rarely buy a ready made loaf these days. My youngest prefers her packed lunches using bread made with 50/50 White and wholemeal flour. It lasts for a couple of days and its unusual to see any wasted as I'll often make bruchetta with the last few slices.

The Pizza dough it makes is great too :)

Have you tried it with a little butter or olive oil? I find adding a little of either, maybe 15g, will keep it moist for a day or so longer :)

Ok it sounds like no good household should be without one and I should buy one soon.

I just have this feeling that they are really just the doughy equivalent of foot spas.

I got the Panasonic 254, I don't think I've ever made anything inedible with it. I do have the patience to make bread by hand but all too often I found myself without the time.

mmmm bread! made me stupidly hungry reading this!

my dad makes the best home made stuff, keeps trying random funky flours and adding seeds etc, so tasty!

Oh to be young, carefree, and still living with your parents...
Especially with a dad who's a funky flour experimenter.

(No sarcasm - I genuinely wish this was true for me).

alas I don't, only visit about once a month, but every time he will have a loaf or two.

despite the bread and awesome workshop, I could never move back!

Every time we need bread?

It's a panasonic one iirc :)

I guess daily then. Good for you. I understand that many people buy these things and use them very infrequently - hence the foot spa analogy. Glad you find it so useful.

I don't know if a Panasonic is good or not.

I have been suffering with acid reflux for years... been taking lanzoprozole to deal with it.

I have been on a new training regime and my diet has been quite strict, so bread has not been on my shopping list. Since I haven't been eating bread... no acid indigestion

bread is bad
dont do bread

I bought a Kenwood Rapid-Bake yesterday. Awesome bit of kit.

If you've not got the time for weighing out amounts then simply use a ready-made bread mixture- add water + mixture and start the machine going.

To clean - just as you dump the bread out simply fill the bucket with soapy water, soak for 10 minutes and wipe clean.. it's very easy.

Breakfast this morning was toasted door-steps with jam.. nothing like freshly baked bread.

Panny Sd-255 Breadmaker rocks my boat. We make fresh bread daily for a family of three. So far its been in constant use since the start of the year.

We tend to buy Allinson Flour, both strong white and country grain. Obviously the latter has some major fibre content, and a gorgeous taste to boot. http://allinsonflour.co.uk/products/country-grain-bread-flour.html
