Rugby League Season Starts Soon

I thought an interesting topic of discussion would be the current situation with the Crusaders. Into administration this week. Surely this has to be the final straw for this club getting a SuperLeague license renewed? Under grounds of financial instability.

I don't see why Wakey, Cas have to suffer for this lingering, misery of a club. Give their license to Widnes if they must and get the RFL to admit that the pull of Union in Wales is just too strong. RFL, please stop this ridiculous venture, its gone on FAR TOO LONG! It's like the Crusaders can get away with murder and still be in SL, they seem to be able to do no wrong and it infuriates me. Even Hull KR fans are getting slightly twitchy about the licensing round, but hopefully a Crusaders demise will put a stop to that!

Also, Blackpool's demise is a sad case, if only the RFL had the energy to assist clubs like this but their lethergy is too great.

/ controversial post.

Wakey and Crusaders out, Leigh and Widnes in would be my preference. Get 2 actual rugby league teams back in where they belong.

I have to agree with you in part, the welsh game is being given a big helping hand by the rfl and how long should this saga continue, before its superleague license is revoked.

In reality, the rfl will duck and dive around the issue and I suspect out of the ashes - a new club will appear in 2011. The rfl will then claim its a matter for the previous club and the status quo will continue.

Widnes must indeed be peed off at the antics, they richly deserved a superleague license last time, as did Leigh. Perhaps it will be their turn, in the next round of licenses. I suspect either Castleford, or, Salford will go down, with Wakefield surviving on a close call. Only time will tell on this one.

The real problem still exists, one of our English clubs places in the super league, was sacrificed in favour of the Catalan Dragons, but, I will leave that one for another day.

I am genuinly worried for my own club. Neil Hudgell, the chairman, has repeatedly stated that he is not concerned in the slightest about the new licensing rounds and has laid out plans to build a new north stand and the east stand extension should happen over this winter.

Hull City council leaders are meeting on the 22nd November to discuss funding for the new north stand and it is expected that a decision will be made then, so fingers crossed we can secure the funds.

If we don't build a new stand this time around, I very much doubt we would be in the SL for the 2014 licensing round.

Saying all that though, the stadium is only part of what the licensing looks into, and I know for a fact that Hull KR have put a lot of time and money into the other aspects of the license. My heart says we should be fine, but my head worries.

I share your concerns about the ground but still feel we have a strong application. The RFL will hopefully understand the economic climate and seeing crusaders and blackpool go to the wall will have given them a wake up call.

How many clubs proposed completely new stadiums in the last round of licencing and didn't build them for one reason or another?

I guess there could also be further changes in the points system before the 2014 round which should move with the times.

Fingers crossed that we are worrying about nothing and that the money to develop the north stand is forth coming.

It will be interesting to see, how the rfl deals with the current economic climate.

a lot of clubs over the past few years, have had their funding slashed. Bradford has been no exception to this, we have spent less the 50% of the salary cap on players and the results on field have reflected this.

The only benefit we now have at Bradford is the fact that we have built a new state of the art training facility. This cost came out of our salary cap and will hopefully provide the stars of tomorrow. I expect a lot of clubs will have to look long and hard on how they finance future player signings, especially now the rules on homegrown players are being enforced.

With regards to the grounds, I expect KR to still be here after the next round of suplerleague licenses, other clubs such as Salford and Castleford should be really worried, as they could loose out on the state of the ground alone.

If you think about the drama that the Hull derby pulls each year, the spectacle that was the first playoff derby, the very good away crowds that Rovers take and the revenue generated from this, it would be folly to kick us out. If nothing else (the ground etc), those reasons will be our saving grace.

Has anyone been to Perpignan to watch their team play the Catalan Dragons? If so, how did u get there and which hotel did you use?

No, but I know a lot of people who have gone. I am thinking about going next season, depending on when the fixture is. I say it every year that I will go but never actually follow through with it. Fly there for definate, then public transport it to a hotel, assuming the ground is close to the city centre/the things to do.

A mate of mine flys into barcelona every year (with a gang of the lads) and they hire a car/mini-bus to take them up to perpignan for the game, sometimes staying over for 1 night but more often just heading straight back to Barca.

Anyone off to the fight tomorrow? Brian Mcdermott Vs Scully in St Helens? Hope Maccer smashes scully to the floor! :D Also, being a wire fan, i hope that Lee Briers is given a good kicking by Herol Graham too (though it is only an exhibition match!)

Wasn't it McDermott that knocked 2/3 Leeds players out with single punches in a semi-final at the Goatfarm?
