Why do bikers..

well thats a common sense fail i wouldnt even dream of that ive felt lorrys going past one in a single lane and the sheer amount of pull they have when you go past getting inbetween 2 jesus :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I wouldn't go through there, any movement side to side from either of them and that's the end of you. 2 or 3 times that gap and I will, but I size it up first, and get through quick.

yeah at 16 I couldn't get a car.

I have nothing against bikers, it's just the last few weeks commuting into North London has opened my eyes them.

I wasnt having a dig so no worries.

I wanted a bike under the pretense that I couldnt afford a car. My mum being a recovery nurse simply said no. 2 years of car driving I had the urge again and got a 125. Now I have a 636 Ninja. Certainly safer than the 125 - Ironically.

I would imagine london is hiving with them but risky riders show up everywhere and sometimes I find myself doing something a touch out of my comfort zone but never intentionally dangerous.

End of the day if biking was as suicidal and dangerous as a lot of 'cagers' (Yes I use this term now as simply you dont know how oblivious and blind to caring being wrapped in metal can make you) make it out to be then we wouldnt do it.. nevermind to and from work or places or dependence.
 
hah, I've never gone between trucks but I've been soooo tempted at times. Sat behind trucks doing a 2 mile overtake manouvre and you see a decent gap that you would filter through if the truvks were static and think 'that would be so cool to wheelie through'. I mean, it wouldnt, not in real life as I'm no Ghostrider, but its still tempting in a childish way :D
 
Ah the monthly lambaste that all bikers are idiots. Brilliant! ;)

Filtering is legal, yes some swerve but more often than not it's to avoid car drivers that have poor road positioning or don't bother to look out for or help bikers. As for the speed limit, well I'm guessing every car driver is an angel sticking religiously to the speed limit at all times! ;)

This is something that gets discussed often, but unfortunately there's never any end to it.

The way i see it, there are good and bad on any vehicle on the road so it's not fair to tar them all with the same brush - although at a guess the percentage of idiot bikers is massively higher than that of drivers.

What I really really hate is the number of bikers, plenty of whom are here, who seem to think they are exempt from the law because they are on a bike.

Good example - car driver complains about bikers sitting 2 foot from rear bumper, biker chips in with "oh but it's safe because we can stop quicker/see more".... Last time I checked, the highway code didn't differentiate between bikes and cars. Also, they're causing a massive distraction to the car driver...... So why bother, its not getting them anywhere quicker, just serves to intimidate other road users.

Or the recent claims from one biker than 140mph+ was safe on a bike on public highways, completely ignoring the fact there are other people on the road.

I'm not judging everyone the same, but the extent of what bikers come out with to defend themselves is shocking at times

This is what I mean, if we're talking an uphill overtake with a .1mph speed difference, I'll scope it out and if I deem the gap is big enough (and it does honestly have to be quite big), I will dart through.

I understand there's a risk to it and I don't just whizz through without some consideration. I will also not do it very often, and to be honest I ride a LOT less these days and because of that I'm less comfortable and less complacent - so I doubt that I will ever do it again unless I go back to commuting 5 days a week 10 months a year, because it does breed an indifference and a complacency to certain dangers.

That's total rubbish, we can't stop as quick as cars, no way no how. Any biker that thinks he can stop on a sixpence has obviously never had to really pull it up quick - you just can't do it like you can in a car.
 
Irresponsible road users can be found everywhere, in cars, in trucks, in buses, on bikes on bicycles, on horses. the vehicle itself isn't the culprit its the plonker in control of it.

Agreed. I also had a pleasant experience recently when a car driver coming from the other direction stopped short of the junction he was intending to turn right into so that I would know he had seen me.
 
I've had that a few times, it's really nice to give a wave to people, and some people give a little toot of their horn, or wave back. That's how driving/riding should be - working together to look after one another - not trying to kill one another.
 
I've found that car drivers rarely seem to expect the unexpected whereas a properly trained biker will. You'd have to be a complete idiot to ride a motorbike believing anyone will spot you in their mirrors in time to not be surprised when you cruise past.
We should all be forced to ride a moped round central london/brum/manc every day in rush hour traffic for a month before being allowed to drive cars if only to instill a decent level of awareness through fear of death ;) (obviously this fear is harder to produce in teens but it would certainly work with older drivers).

Of the number of bikers, the percentage that ride like divs is split.

For the weekend warriors, on their sportsbikes on a day off or at a weekend, its more like 80 % of them ride like divs

for the people who use their bikes to commute every day, and dont get so crazy about needing to take every overtake and get everywhere the fastest, its more like 10 / 20% as it was with car drivers.

Its the weekend warriors who give bikers a bad rep, who nearly all ride their bike like its stolen, because they've been stuck in a car commuting in rush hour traffic all week and let the speed go to their heads.

thats utter drivel :) ....stats are worth nothing without a survey

you say 50% of bikers are divs

80% of people who use sportsbikes as a weekend hobby are divs

where are these stats from ?, and what is a 'div' ? (I remember now I used to call people divs when I was 5)


why all the hostility to others on the road ?, just chill out.... I ride 30 odd miles a day and overtake constantly, not because I am in a rush, just because I can, safely (gotta love instant drive in any gear any speed)

the fact I can and do overtake constantly where I can, means I save around 2-3 hrs a week on traveling, it's win win for me... and 2.5hrs that I can spend on something I choose

maybe you feel like a div sat in traffic for hours ? :) (maybe you can lick windows when bored ?)
