It's good news that they are dubbing After Story, personally I doubt I'll bother double dipping as I love the Japanese track and I can't justify buying (yet) another copy. If they released it on blu-ray for less than the Japanese release I would be tempted though.

The Clannad movie though ... to be honest, in my opinion, this is not really very good, (I have seen *cough* versions of it and I do own the LE Japanese DVD release). Whilst generally following the same overall ideas there are differences in the plot of the movie compared with the series' and I felt that it hit that same issues as other films of it's type that if you have seen the series then the film seens hurried and incomplete. But also if you have only seen the first Clannad series then the film contains spoilers for events shown in After Story which the latter handles better.

Overall I rank the Clannad movie on the same level as the Air movie (which is pretty low compared with the series).

@Alex, I played French Horn from when I was ~7 until I was 18. I would say that the standard I was at was high end amateur level and I played in various orchestras up to county youth level during that period and performed with them in several different countries, (technically speaking I could claim to be an international soloist .... but that would be pushing it ;)). But some of the people I played with at that time were a lot, lot better than me and went on to perform professionally.

@Demoniser, regarding some of the Studios etc having lots of merchandise. Danny Choo's site has some quite interesting post sometimes where he has visited various Anime related companies and had tours around their offices, (for example Bandai here).

Watched a few things this weekend ....

Itazura na Kiss - a shojo series at it's most cringeworthy. Heroine has approximately the IQ of cheese and the motor skills to go with it. It does have the reasonably rare attribute of actually starting off in high school but then following the main characters as they make their way into the world after school and college. It's difficult to say much about what goes on with spoilers (due to the "plot" being very simple and linear). Overall though it was quite amusing in places but I wouldn't really recommend it unless you are terminally bored.

Sora no Manimani - this was a re-watch. It's your usual highschool club based situation, the club in this case being the Astronomy club. Usual fare of guy transfers in and a childhood friend wants him to join her club. Followed by the usual mix of getting members, school festival, external activities. A tried and tested formula but it's done well and the characters are nice. I like this series.

Miyori no Mori - a film for Sunday afternoon :) ... thinking back I think I came across this when Andarial wanted it identified from a description a while back. I felt the story felt very Ghibli-esque in that who had a young main character, supernatural creatures, a wholesome story and nice visuals. And the visuals are nice. If anyone says all cartoons are the same show them an average episode of the Simpsons and then show them this. The quality of the art in the village and some of the forest is some of the best I have seen. Overall I though it was a reasonable film, the art was better than your average Ghibli but the plot was maybe not quite up to Ghibli's level.

I see Film4 had the Castle of Cagliostro on this afternoon ... didn't bother with it myself as (a) I was busy at the time and (b) they were broadcasting it dubbed.

Currently re-watching Taishou Yakyuu Musume :)

Finished re-watching Taishō Yakyū Musume (Tashio Baseball Girls) earlier. Nice little series about a group of girls forming a baseball team at their school in the 1920's and the troubles they go through to be taken seriously.

It's a nice fun watch and stays pretty focused on the one storyline throughout.

Looks like Funimations solicitations for Feb/Mar have solidified overnight ... interesting items include:

Feb:
Chobits Complete Collection (DVD & BD)
Chrono Crusade Complete Collection
FLCL Complete Collection (DVD & BD)
Summer Wars (DVD & BD) :D

Mar:
Eden of the East Movie 1: The King of Eden (DVD & BD)
EVA 2.22 You can (not) Advance (DVD & BD)
Rosario + Vampire
Rosario + Vampire Capu2

:)

I am also an animation lover. I like to watch animated tv shows and movies. But i want to add here about the movie of which i am a great fan! It is Toy Story 3 movie. I can never forget it. It is my favorite flick.

Aye Chobits is new enough that it was done on computer, but old enough (2001?) that it was almost certainly SD only:(

If it's not an upscale and it's region free I'll probably buy it.

Manga was '01-'02 and the anime was in '02.

I'm wavering at the moment on whether to pick up the re-release of the manga at the moment, given how nicely done the first volume of the Cardcaptor manga omnibus was (I already own the "singles" release of the Chobits manga and already have the anime on DVD).

So the next NISA series to get the premium treatment has been announced. It's Working!! which is about a group of oddball characters who work in a family restaurant. It's an interesting and reasonably fun little series.

For various reasons they are releasing it under the name Wagnaria!! (there already being an American TV series called Working probably being one reason). Wagnaria was the name of the restaurant in the show.

Due March next year.
