Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

aparently its out in america...

from another forum.

ran really well 60fps vsync limit with only 40% gpu usage (AA did not apear to work)
textures are fairly good for a console port.
no replay option.
races are very short 1-2minutes tops.
handling is very console arcade rage racer type junk.
the brake is only a means of inducing a "drift" so dont expect to drive as its more like how a speed boat would turn if it had loads of grip.
the sounds are pretty dull and bland , the engines dont roar out on a 5.1 speaker system like you might expect from a car game.

it is nothing like NFS shift and the game sounds more like TDU2 with race racer handling...

is tdu 2 by the same people who do burnout?

i think i might skip this and wait for shift 2 i prefer proper "driving games" where you slow down for a corner.... rather than hit the brake and drift around it with minimal effort

Many PC gamers will run the game at 1920 x 1080 - consoles will be 1280 x 720, and so if the game runs at 1920 x 1080 with 4 xx AA high res textures at average 40fps then its already performing better then a console, even if its not using the full potential of your GPU.

Not wishing to rain on your parade but "only" 21% of Steam gamers have 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 capable displays. ;)

But back on topic - where is the PC version getting all its social stuff from? It's trying to beat your friends on different challenges/scenarios that is the core of this game.

Really, wow I honestly would have thought 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200 displays were quite common now. Well thats good news for many then as lower res, should mean even better performance..:p

Sounds lot like Blur, bascially that was wipeout with cars..!! you pressed the brake and it didn't really slow you down like in proper racing but allowed you to drift around the corner etc....

I think this game is more about fun then real racing. When I played the demo it had a real burnout feel to it, takedowns etc... As an arcade race and chase type game it was fine... As a true racer its nothing like a racing game.

Sure you race on a road, but the core is all about beating friends, takedowns and smashing cops or racers off the road etc....

As for need for speed shift 2? didn't know they were making a second..!! lol:p

Need for Speed: Shift 2 is due out for consoles and PC between the beginning of January and the end of March next year, EA confirmed last night. (last night beeing sometime in august)

GAME supposedly sent my copy on Sunday, much to my surprise, but it remains to be seen whether it is waiting for me at home or whether it will actually arrive on Thursday as most games do from them.

I'm really looking forward to playing this after trying the two console demos. Being able to run it at 1920x1200 at 60 fps is a big plus but I'm a bit annoyed to hear that the PC version has no support for anti-aliasing. Even the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions used 2xMSAA, granted it was applied selectively.

What is it with developers these days? Most people who buy PC games have DX10 or DX11 cards yet the number of multiformat games without support for AA just keeps growing. The successors to the PS3 and Xbox 360 cannot come soon enough IMO; at least then we'll get multiformat games on the PC that actually make use of our £200+ graphics cards!!!

any games ported from them will no doubt run like crap though

No, apparently this game has no support for AA according to what I've been to find out from reading the forums. :(

Someone on the Guru3D forum has the game and he managed to force the new MLAA though as he has an HD 5850. However, nice as that is to have, it is not ideal as it blurs the text and HUD elements too. It is no substitute for proper AA IMO but at least ATI owners have an option.

Burnout Paradise, also by Criterion, has AA support as a graphics setting plus was running on a deferred rendering DX9 engine so I don't know what the excuse is for not supporting it in the PC version of Hot Pursuit. As I said even the consoles versions have 2xMSAA!!!

No antialiasing?! You are bloody joking.

I was thinking just the same thing... ATI 5xxx or 6xxx owners could I guess enable MLAA to try and fix the edges but this is quite a shock..

Edit poster above mentioned MLAA - but agreed it will blur the text and HUD and if you use the Steam overlay that gets blurred as well. But least ATI 5xxx or 6xxx owners have some options in regards to AA, but its nowhere near as good as ingame AA.

out of everything no replays is what puts me off the game... whats the point of all this cops and robbers , nail spikes , car crashes , exploding barrels or whatever if you cant watch a nice replay of it all at the end.

i play from the "front bumper" first person style view in racing games i miss pretty much anything that goes on

Same.

I almost pre-ordered this but i'm going to wait for a bit, think I might buy Shift again to tide me over whilst this gets released and matures a bit

i still do atleast one race in shift everyday :D
people are probably sick of me posting pics in the high res screenshot thread :D

theres quite a few mods about to reduce the blur , reduce the bloom (but keep hdr) etc

theres the ferrari xbox dlc someone ported to pc aswell (because ea wouldnt)

Hmmm, £20 on Steam and £15 on EA Store. Tempted, but just remembered I have a tenner off voucher for EA Store so i'll get Hot Pursuit for £20, i'll risk it being crap for that and wait for Shift 2
