Golf problem

My daughters Golf has gone a bit wonky, the check engine light has lit up and its doing some stuttering.

Its a 2006 1.6 FSi auto, what do you think?

Yea thats a technical term :)

Well she got home just about with the little engine light lit up and if you try to rev it or drive it its sort of shuddering. The book says something about a MAF sensor, whats that?
 
its going to be coil pack, airflow sensor exhaust or well a lot I would have thought. or either its really broke :p

can you get the error code from the trip computer?

My technical expertise is legendary, it amounts to putting petrol in.

Iv also had a few now and its cold outside, but im doing my good dad bit before it goes off to be fixed tomorrow :)
 
VAG MAF Sensors are crap, they don't last very long and certainly could be the problem.

My last experience of MAF problems on a VAG group car (Octavia VRS): hard to start from cold, once warm idled fine, hesitation / shuddering on acceleration.

Way to test it: unplug it and drive the car, if symptoms disappear then you've found your problem.

Head down to local TPS and get a replacement giving them yours as credit.
 
Odds are its a Coil pack and the things only firing on 3 cylinders, £18 +vat for a new coil pack (from VW) if its coil on plug, if i was closer i'd diag and change for free, it's simple stuff.

You've got a reader for CAN-BUS stuff? What did you go for?
 
Excellent chaps thanks for that, me man is coming to collect it in half hour, i will tell you the verdict later :)
 
a quick word with a diagnosis thing on the ecu would probably tell all.

a small wager goes on a coil pack. outside bet on a breather hose.

wonky: the state of me c2330hrs on a friday and/or saturday night
 
We shall soon know, the wounded Golf has been taken away for surgery :)
 
The performance could be down to limp mode for what it's worth, rather than a symptom of the real problem.
 
It was a coil, hes put a new brake light bulb in too, £65.40 all in,picked up and delivered tonight, bargain :)
