Anyone been to a silent disco?

Been to a couple. I prefer it for the ability to talk to people where ever you are but at Syndicate their wireless headphones have 2 channels so you can get caught out listening to a different song to your mates.

Decent headphones mean you dont miss out on much volume either, only the bass in your chest feeling.

They have them every month in the Space Gallery at the Science Museum Lates. Never got round to trying them but the people look they are having a great time.

Is quite bizarre watching disco lights reflect off an Apollo Lunar Lander while people bust their moves in silence.

Oh, and the Science Museum is so much better when you get to wander round with a beer :)

Only eventually :), back in the day it was a laugh rucking with the old bill if they got in.

Must have been great fun. Every free party I've been, the police have shown up and just hung around outside to make sure it doesn't get vicious. They often offered non-compulsory breathalysers to those heading to their cars upon leaving, but I've never had an issue with police at a rave, so clearly you need to stop hanging out with scum.

Edit: Though when you wade through 2" of squat juice in a Hackney basement to find some skag-head trying to sell your near-catatonic female mates heroin, you kinda wish they'd make more of an effort :p

Been to one the last couple of years while working at the Summer Sundae festival. Thought they were really great fun.

Usually you get some horrid banging dance music one one feed, and indie rock / pop type stuff on the other. Very funny taking the phones off to hear loads of people singing The Smiths while the other half go bonkers to dance music :)

Plus they're not really silent cos there's tons of socialising going on as well; you can hear people speaking and hear yourself think.

5 stars!

I was talking about raves cica 1990 -1992 around the M25 and cambridge seems like a lifetime ago :(

Got caught up in one in 'Napa this year. Some sort of law to stop the music after a certain time, 2am I think.

First time for me, was pretty decent to be honest. A nice surprise!

This thread explains what I thought was a surreal "everybody apparently dancing in the street in silence" experience that I had in Spain a week back....

I remember at the time thinking that I'd had WAY too much Sangria. :o

It was quite late at night in a residential area, reading this thread, it fits!

This thread has (slightly) restored my faith in my own sanity..... :D

Mate of mine went to one.

Only benefit I can see is being able to take the headphones off and being able to have a conversation at a reasonable level when everyone gets on making ***** of themselves :)

yup. (well at uni)

main room was playing the second channel of music though, and it was loud enough to hear it over the headphones.

so we just went and raved away as usual.
