FAO Dons or Admins.

Ahh, I think there's a misunderstanding here. I was trying to say that the MM won't be treated any less strictly. The infractions if anything make things more strict as you will always get a sus from two of them which you might not under the old system.

Ah makes more sense then. ;)

So the infractions rules and points do apply so no need to change the FAQ.

However, it would be still be nice to know what rule breaks are minor?

Obviously, trolling, thread bumping, <24 hr price drops aren't or are they?

If I wanted to know my history who should I ask - any Don or one of the MM Dons via trust email?

Just worried that Im probably 1 away from total bannage or something - especially if they dont expire.

Its all quite confusing. Not sure why that is...

Any chance of using some scenarios/examples just to illustrate the point?

A handy feature would be to have your bans listed in the User CP somewhere...naturally making this function happen is another thing

I have had a two day suspension for a price drop within 24 hours. Trust me to drink too much beer and lose a day I could have sworn it was actually 46 hours lol. I was quite annoyed at myself but took it in good grace.

I think the rules are fine as they are. The MM is a free service kindly offered by Spie as part of the forums and if you think about it, if anything, it takes away possible sales from the shop.

I any case, it must be a bugger to admin at the best of times and we all know how other places where you could sell your bits have turned into nightmares. so it is all good.

Since this thread is here I may as well post a question, even though it's not about MM. I recently got suspended and didn't receive a proper reason why, the reason on my account was "for being a smart arse", which surely you can't suspend some one for being a smart arse, right?

I have an idea that it was down to a certain mod around here that simply can't debate and ragebanned be because he couldn't say anything else. Could some one please look in to this?

I really think suspensions shouldn't be at the discretion of individual moderators to avoid such situations because seriously, getting called a smart arse and banned for it is one of the worst reasons I've heard for getting a suspension and to me backs up my idea that it was a ragebanning due to the mod not being able to put a constructive argument/debate together over something petty anyway.

Oh and one other point. I am very impressed that this thread is still open and I approve of the new more relaxed policing in GD.

It is actually quite constructive to be able to discuss these things out in the open.

The suspension was for trolling in Graphics cards, coincidently, something that was discussed at length in the DR with all the Dons.

I've had a quick look. You well deserved it, and given your history should be keeping quiet about now.

Suspensions are not at the discretion of a single mod.

From what I've read managing the MM can be a complicated business. I've concluded the following points:

1) Mods are only human and are as much prone to mistakes as the rest of us. It doesn't give us an excuse to start jumping up and down on them as soon as such a mistake is made, especially when they're volunteering out of their own time to moderate the fora for us.

2) A clearer notification system needs to be in place for penalties. I suggest enabling the PM feature for moderator to user communications only to support this.

3) Review system in place to verify MM item postings. This will require more moderation but as Burnsy said he's up for it, other moderators may be also.

4) The MM is a valuable tool. You can literally save hundreds of pounds a year by using this instead of eBay. It is a privilege to use and shouldn't be taken for granted though so read and reread the FAQ before using it.

5) The FAQ needs to be examined by the mods to make sure that any points can't be misinterpreted.

Anyway, just my two pence.

Can you explain what the "smart arse" part was about please? As I received a "warning" for "trolling" (I made a joke), nothing else happened except for me complaining about the warning as I felt it was over the top for a joke, yet I was banned 2 days later. I pointed out that this joke was extremely mild and that we see things in GD many times worse every day.

I tried to ask about it and got nowhere with it, so it's my only option to ask here. Even if you feel that I deserved it, to me it still doesn't explain the poor reason given in the suspension (that mentioned nothing about trolling) and the fact that the trolling I apparently did, I received a warning for anyway.

The "Infraction" I received was only for 1 point anyway, I thought you needed 10 to be suspended for 2 days, yet I was suspended for 10 days. I can't figure out how it was anything other than a rage ban.

Probably why you didn't know then :p

I was pointing out that they already use this function :)

I would post mine but it doesn't make for pleasant reading ;)

Ah that's cool then...But does banning a user allow them to log in? To check this?

No idea. I only am aware of this through the discussion in the DR.

Yep, a banned user can log in fine.

Would you like me to ban you so you can test?

Not particularily as you'd probably forget to lift it in a couple of mins ;)

What I was enquiring was do the warning / banning offenses get put on the User CP...Which apparently they do

If you check my account, I had an infraction for "trolling" to which the suspension made no mention of. If I had an infraction for it though, I shouldn't have also been banned 2 days later for the same thing, right?
