***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

That is what the standards look like, it looks better in some pictures and worse in others, here's what premiums look like in the same mode.

I imagine when it comes to online most people will stick with premiums, I guess the Veyron isn't a premium to put people off from using it 24/7 online.

I'll wait untill I get this game onto my TV before casting judgement.

Some pics look ****** great. But they veyron looked poor!

Premium cars received extra attention (Cosmetics) detail. Standard cars didnt.

What is worrying is a car as big and technologically impressive as the Veyron was not deemed important enough to be a "Premium" car. Yet things like the Volvo C30, Fiat 500, Alfa 147 2.0 (not even the GTA) are Premium models. Still I guess all will become clear in afew days time.

I'll admit Im a hardcore GT. Love it.

However, recently I cant help but feel at though it is loosing its appeal to the more Hardcore Car lover. Now I love the look of the premium cars. They look stunning. I just hope the experience between the two (Standard and Premium) doesnt dampen the over all experience.

As I said I'll wait and see.

The problem is that there are actually two types of Standard model in the game - the upscaled GT4 models, which look ok, and then the ported GTPSP models (such as the Veyron) which look horrendous.

In-game will you really be able to tell the difference though? The PS3 and only display so much with its GPU, granted in photo/replay mode the premiums will look much nicer but will there really be a difference otherwise.

WTF is this?!

Awful modelling and texturing tbh.

There's something up with those shots.
They're possibly fake but if they are from GT5 then it's got to be from a replay/ camera mode, where they've gone away from the player car and looked at an AI controlled car.
There's no way it's a top LOD model.

You can't **** off the texturing though, there's virtualy none to be seen on the car in those shots ;)

Any links to where this has been said by the developers?
Seems shocking if true.

It's true, although the models are usually very high quality, they are then down scaled into the game, so although they are models from GT4/GTPSP they are better quality looking in GT5, just not as good quality as the new premium models obviously, PD tend to make models beyond the capabilities of the system so they can be reused, like the current premium models for example, I've heard that they are of such high quality they will be used in GT6 also.

As lowrider said these arent literally ripped off the GT4 disc - these are models that they built as high-res assets which are then simplified for that game. For GT5 all theyve down is gone back to those assets but not need to reduce their quality as much for GT5.

Think of it like old movies that get put onto BD - the actual film stock resolution is far superior than what Full HD requires even though that stock might be decades old...

Though I doubt the resources they originally put into those high res models is as good as what theyve done to the from scratch GT5 cars (espeically the premiums) but I bet its pretty close...

ps3ud0
