what to buy?

so the OCZ 60GB Vertex 2E SSD 2.5" SATA-II is the best ssd for £100?

can i ask why the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Hybrid is no good for a desktop system?

oh one thing, i'm running my hdd's in ide mode, when i get a ssd drive will it work in ide mode and at full performance? or does it need to go in AHCI mode? if so would all the other hdd's need to be formatted after switching over to AHCI mode?

SSDs need to be operating in AHCI mode for optimal performance but then so do HDDs. I find it odd that so many people still use IDE in the first place - the only advantage that I can think of is that you can install XP without needing special drivers and most people around here have moved on to Windows Vista/7.

Anyway, you can switch to AHCI without needing to reformat your HDDs or having any adverse effects - they'll slightly perform better in certain situations, if anything.

are u sure?

review videos/site says theses are a lot quicker

They are supposed to be a lot quicker than standard hard drives and a week ago when ocuk got them in I too was very interested but Ocuk were going to bench them and produce the figures. Dont know if they have yet but there must have been problems as nothing was forthcoming so I bought an ssd instead.:(

See this thread.

this is my first SSD drive, so i'm sorry if the question sound stupid.

Nope, if your system can see a mechanical drive on windows install you're good to go
