That whole idea is just stupid, why would you want to strap yourself up just to free up 4k?
Glad to see lots of people excited over a proper wheel drive car from a proper car manufacturer for once!
Fundamentally reliable cars, had a problem with the gearbox on mine which was fixed under warranty, no other trouble though in the 36k miles I did in it.
Not expensive cars to run, but not cheap either, likely to average around 30mpg in mixed driving, will barely crack 35mpg on a run, servicing is about average (£160-£300 or so), tyres aren't bad, £90 a corner for Contisports or Eagle F1s etc, £180-200 for a set of front pads and discs, errm thats about it really! Great fun car, really miss mine.
How much do I earn?

Did you replace it with the Megane and if so any issues with that? Gear box isses sounds worrying but could just be unlucky, i'm going to have a noisy round the Clio forum
Running costs seem practically the same as my Corolla
£4k seems to be grow on trees in ocukland.
Obviously not enough if you are selling a car to scrape up 4k.

Point proven.
Gearbox issue was only with very early ones (mine was a 2006 on a 56 plate) with the third gear synchomesh...tbh I'd expect that any that have had a problem by now would've had it sorted and those that haven't will be fine.
I had a few cars inbetween the clio and megane but have had no problems with the megane now after nearly 19k miles in it, aside from a vibrating backbox which is very intermittent.

He mentioned what he earns i just commented on it.
If he wants to sell a car to pay a deposit then thats great, but why in the next breath would you want to strap yourself up with another debt?
Anyway forget that, didnt want to upset you Relentless, crack on and enjoy.
I'm not in agreement with the more debt part but I don't see why he seems to be getting stick for selling a car for a deposit.
I will, many thanks for your always valued input.
Thanks, you got any pics of it already hosted?
Anyway, back on topic - Be sure to try a 172/182 at half the price before you buy anything. Theres no way you'll get twice as much enjoyment out of your ownership of a 197 IMO.
Enjoyment? Perhaps not, but the 197 is a much more complete car the the 1*2.
Fair enough, just came across as a little arrogant.
