US Car buying fun

UPS Delivery driver in Florida $75,000 basic,+ 30,000 benefits + 20 hours overtime = $109,000 P/A
UPS Delivery driver in UK £24,500 P/A

End of argument regards "where and what is cheaper".

Sorry but that is complete and utter BS. I recall speaking to a guy who worked there. They are on $15 per hr MAX. Its about one of the most low end un-educated jobs you can get out here.

As far as I can see (without a membership) that is for people with more than 6 years experience. Not exactly a starting wage, or a true reflection of the average wage.

BTW Rich, that car looks ace. :D. Propa cruiser.

which is why it also says $52k - $78k

And for the record this thread is far from fun.

One measure is that the federal minimum wage is $8.50 or so, compared to the UK which is around £5.50 at the moment?

Which kinda supports the Purchasing Power Parity ratio of each currency, which I believe for the £-$ is about 1.4 or so.

Once you are above the minimum wage the two employment markets diverge massively - people waiting tables and bar staff can get $20 an hour with tips etc. Really tends to vary.

And there's other things like healthcare isn't always offered with a role, or is only offered after 3 months - and even when it is sometimes the company will only cover a percentage of it, so you are still paying $200-300 out of your pocket for healthcare and suchlike.

It's really very hard to get a feel for it just from facts and figures - but for sure it's definitely not as 'cheap' actually living here as it feels when you are on holiday,

And for the record this thread is far from fun.
:( :p

I have no idea, I always wondered why our local UPS guy was happy. I suspect the figures quoted are largely inaccurate with the high earners wanting to put there salaries onto the site. An average across most of the drivers would be very interesting.

Why are UPS guys paid so much?

Only a fraction of the population qualify for such demanding work. So much so that they earn more than some air traffic controllers and pilots I know.

Took it out for a bit of a drive this afternoon - sitting at 70mph it is dead on 2,000 rpm and the economy is dead on 27mpg which I'm pretty happy about I have to say!

And naturally I drove to the nearest tunnel at Gaviota and floored it which was slightly smile-inducing - 7 second 0-60 in a 2 ton car isn't the worst and the engine which is normally whisper-quiet makes a rather nice noise :p
