***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

Serious question that will be accused of being trolling...

Is that level of detail worth it if you have to put up with screen tearing?

No you're not trolling. I ask the same question. Its not worth it to wreck the gameplay due to seeing it tear across the screen.

It looks nice when not moving, but once you try and push it around screen it can't cope... I do hope reports are wrong and its not badly affected by tearing but i've got that awful feeling.

I've seen FM3 slow down, but pretty much only when I've caused a 6 car shunt :/

Well yeah but overall Forza 3 is very smooth and looks ok but it has never tore across the screen. I've had hundreds of forza 3 races and plunged hours into that game and never seen it tear once.

So if GT5 tears, then its gone for visual over performance and that'll be a shame... Racing games is all about smoothness, not how good it looks. If I want to take photos of cars, I can do that in real life. I buy a racing game to race..!!

Anyhow, some will not agree with me. I have loved all GT games so I do hope to be proved wrong. Muy copy will be here monday /tuesday so I can make my own mind up.. lol

I haven't seen any screen tearing in the gameplay videos. I guess I'll have to wait until next week to find out though.

Same here. I've watched a lot of youtube vids but who knows. I'm doing my classic thing. Over reacting on a single comment, so best to wait and see eh?

But they are really nice looking pictures that's just been posted. ;)

I'm sorry but no..!! that will not be in game, the PS3 just doesn't have enough power to shunt that type of stuff around.

Even my PC would struggle to push that around, its maybe in photomode, but that does all sorts of tricky to the models, you will not be getting that type of detail etc whilst on the track...

it'll look nice yes... Forza 3 nice etc, won't be bad looking but I'm searching the net for reports of screen tearing it is been reported, and that concerns me. Forza 3 is silk smooth and no tearing.... Sony need to drop this 1080p gaming lark, get it to 720p and v sync, anyhow... When I get the game hopefully limited tearing...

And, yes thats a wonderful picture, but its just not going to be ingame. If it is, I'll eat my hat.. Actually, I'd need to buy one first, don't own a hat.. lol

Just posting the pics I've found.

After we've all played the game we'll be able to comment and put any myths to rest.

Yes Forza looks nice. However, Forza has never looked as good as GT (imo).

No thats fine. You're excited about the game, we all are. I'm lowering expections, as if I do this if it does excel I can then go WOW. If I expect that pic posted and its nothing like it, then I'll feel like I've wasted £34, well no as hopefully the racing makes up for it..

But you catch what I mean.. No harm in looking forward to a game thats been 6 years in the making. :p

There is some tearing when theres a lot of cars on the screen at once, and the car shadows are a bit jagged at times. But this doesnt matter to me at all because the handling of the cars is amazing.

Not good, not good at all. Smoothness in a racing sim is an absolute must for me. Ive been used on the PC for over a decade. It's a game breaker for me sadly :(

No its not good. I'm with you, and I've complained about the PS3 and its screen tearing issues before. I'm a PC gamer, but I've always loved the GT series.

F1 2010 had some awful screen tearing on the PS3, in the pits and during replays etc, so ditched it and went back to the PC. Sadly, GT5 will never see the light on the PC...

Forza 3 had zero screen tearing. I honestly don't know what to make of this now. Sure this looks really good, and has a lot of features but I notice screen tearing easily. Damn..!! :(

WOW looks like the first game/sim to actually get rear lights at night pretty much correct, you know how they seem to stay bright even very far away. if the driver was driving like he actually owned the car would be almost real lookng :)

i beg to differ i'm hoping it's just the vid but it looked like the game suffered some serious slow down in places

As you say lets wait and see , dont kill the game before we have it , i am expecting the game not to be perfect but i believe PD will have done a great job with the hardware the PS3 has .
