***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

I hardly notice it, played Heavy Rain for hours last night.

I do game with the PS3 set to 1080i on a 32" 720P TV (does 1080i but mostly would set to 720p). Maybe the PS3 upscaler is responsible for the tearing, or alleviates it at different resolutions. Or, maybe some eyes just don't see it.

That said, GT5 will be what it is. The screenshot of the Mk2 MX5 is absolutely unforgivable. Rehashing old content that badly in a 5/6 years development time frame is worse than a shoddy console to PC port with no optimisation. They came out with the 1000 car rubbish then realised they bit off more than they could chew. I;d rather they had lied and gave us 500 decent cars. There's no need for two levels of quality. You should strive for excellence and honor it, I thought that's what GT was all about.

Only the driving experience can rescue this game for me now. I get the feeling it was all delayed for pointless features and bolt ons I probably won't use.

Maybe some of you are just simply too fussy

this is the case with most things in this part of the forum

most of us dont really care or even notice because we play games to have fun

you will actually notice that its usually the same people who find fault with everything. gets to the point where you have to wonder wether they actually enjoyed any of the games they played when racking up xxxxxxx amount of gamerscore

i imagine they did though. i think the dislike just get exaggerated here

I remember resident evil 5 on the xbox 360 had this problem at 1080i mode it would tear like crazy yet set it to 720p and it would be fine. it's something to do with the upscaler as all the games are rendered in 720p then up or down scaled accordingly......

I found the tearing in GT5P quite annoying, but it's one of those things that only annoys you if you let it imo. Yes there are occasions in games where it is simply too much (rotating lights in Dead Space with VSync off) but the odd tear is noticeable at first until you focus on the game rather than the tearing, then it becomes unnoticeable. Stewing with annoyance over the tears will only make it worse.

Anyone seen the Grindhouse movies? (Planet Terror, Death Proof, Machete). They've got deliberate, old looking, film scratches and lines all over the place, as soon as you stop watching them flicker across the screen, you forget they're there.

Ok just been and done the club level in heavy rain, yes screen tearing it present if your looking for it but to be honest after 3 seconds of not looking for it it's not even a problem.

like i say simply people being too fussy once again.

resident evil 5 on the 360 tho that was unplayable at 1080 due to the cut scenes being a total mess

anyway that's my off-topic rant over.

Dunno. thats a bad vid to try judge on cos it isn't using any capture equipment, but just a camera pointed at the TV.

Could just be the video, as said he's just pointing a camera at the TV, the wipers were so bad... I don't think the wiper blades in the game would rip like that.

As for the comment about complaints the game hasn't turned up monday, I also get this gut feeling a lot are also going to be complaining about the game itself.. lol I dunno, each day I watch another video or read another article and I just think - knew it..!!

Excitement levels for me has gone from very high to now I'll install when I get time and have a go.. I'm more curious to see if half the reports are true now, instead of wanting to actually play the game... Then I can make judgements.

I'm going to have to defend Forza here and say I've never noticed slowdown where you say there is.

The only place I've seen it is during a replay, and even then it's very rarely.

I'm a humungous Forza fan, you know that, but the Motegi Full start/finish straight is a complete lag-hole, the game slows down so badly just about there its untrue.

But thats about all!

Yes I remember Forza 3 slowing down at tad on that track as well, put so many hours into Forza 3, got bored of the game in the end.. Was a really tidy and smooth running racing game. Turn 10 did a really good job, only reason I got the 360.

I'm hoping that the hours I put into Forza 3 doesn't impare my enjoyment of GT5 truth told, as maybe I'm now bored of GT style games, I got so bored of Fozra 3 I've not played it in months and I used to play it every day nearly for 6 months solid.

Been playing a lot of F1 2010 recently so maybe a GT game will now come up fresh again....

People need to get past the little imperfections, I was up till nearly 3am last night playing this, and I havnt done that with a game for years.
The driving physics are second to none imo. Favorite moment so far was going round the Nurburgring in a 300 SL Coupe '54 in one of the AMG special challenges.

Maybe its on mutiplayer, but I've just had a go on singleplayer and I didn't see any. Framerate drops on racing games are a massive gripe of mine but I can honestly say I've never noticed any on Forza 3.

Honestly mate, you seem to be worrying and getting wound up/stressed about it for nothing!

Just give it the benefit of the doubt until you have it, then see how it goes, the only game I ever got peeved with tearing on was Dead Rising on the 360, indoors that did my but in, yes GT 5 Prologue had some slowdown when entering a corner with all 16 cars on screen (The first corner of Fuji especially in my experiences) but that won't detract enjoyment from the game for me, no game is perfect, neevr will be, even our favourites have glitches/problems/graphical anomolies, but at the end of the day, thats life, and fixing those bugs is what patches, dlc and GT6 is all about!

Ah ok, happens for me even on SP Time Trial. but again, its one of those things, end of the day, it matters not! :)

Yeah I know.. I'm so picky though, but yes you're right and so is everyone else. I'll wait until I've played it.
