***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

First of all, awesome game I'll probably buy a ps3 for this in Jan, I love being able to try out any road car I like rather than just the supercars like in most games.

But just a question for the people using a racing seat and wheel, aren't you bothered how it feels compared to, you know, a real car ? I tried live for speed with a G25 wheel at uni and it felt crap imho, tiny steering wheel and didn't feel at all like real driving and ragging it about, I think I prefer racing games on a pad or even a keyboard, and not with a wheel as it feels fake anyway ? Just something that I was REALLY disappointed with, I thought ''ah G25, awesome wheel'', tried a lap or two in the racing seat and the g25 and a projector, and was disappointed that it feels nothing like driving a real car...

Still, I hope I can get my hands on this game soon, I love the GT series for their big library of cars.

They do look proper ****, yes.

They may not seem much to some people, but anything like pop-up, framerate drops and dodgy shadows keep reminding you that it isn't real, and that isn't good for these kind of games.

Hmmm Well when i play a FPS I do tend to forget its a game and that i'm shooting real people.... Until, that is the fps drop or a shadow is out of place...

like when i'm playing a sports game, I only remember i'm not kicking a real football when I player gets stuck or something..

No game will ever make you forgot that you're sat in some cockpit. Not even F1 simulators do that.. Reason is that in real like that fear factor stops you going faster, reason games players can sometimes set such quick laps but try it for real and you're well of the pace as what you set in a game..

Wasn't it clarkson that drove Laguna in GT4 and then tried it for real and was quite a bit slower. He said he knew the corners but his body wouldn't let him take the corners at the same speed as in the game, using the very same car...

Yep. Did it in a Honda NSX. Quite an interesting piece for us gamers!

Other games with long development time would be... HL2 (generally outstanding reviews), Battlecruiser 3000AD (hilariously bad, and utterly ripped to shreds) and Duke Nukem Forever (not quite out yet, and I anticipate disaster). So GT5 could go any which way, really.

Can add HL2 ep3 to that list.. lol

Half Life 2 had its fair share of negective comments from the public but the critics loved it. I feel critics will love GT5 and so will most of the public, but it will be ripped by many, and forza fanboys....

just the way it is.... Sadly.

Does anyone think the HUD and interface is mega blocky ugly? Why do most jap made games have bad menus and huds?

Having no cockpit in all cars is unacceptable for me

Nomnomnom

These photo 'renders' although lovely do set people up for a little bit of a disappointment I feel because they are far from how the game will look in actual play.

Not trying to troll or anything but just don't get too carried away with these shots otherwise you may be a little let down come Wednesday.

Yeah it is going to get ripped to shreds because it won't be perfect, I'm sure that there are games that have had longer timeframes of development than this but because they weren't called Gran Turismo they are immune from the absolutely massive level of criticism that this game is surely bound to receive.

Personally if something in the game is bad I will say it, if something is good I will say it. People have been gearing themselves for a game which is no less than perfect and now as a result of a few glitches here and there and the ZOMGSTANDARDCARGATE scandal a lot of people are acting as if this is a game which looks like a sack of **** and will be a massive disappointment. For those people it MAY be, but when this game comes out people should just take it for what it is and not what they thought it would or should be. Now, I'm going to fire up the PS3 and play the original Gran Turismo. :p

It's not just a few glitches here and there though. I'm not going to list all the issues I have seen that may well effect my enjoyment, but there are many. Some new, some same old problems that really should be fixed by now. But what I will say is, there is a lack of consistency and polish in GT5 that the previous GT games did not suffer from. Sure GT4 had it's problem, but 95% of what was there was polished to a high level within the constraints of the hardware. Aspects of GT5 game make it feel that it was rushed and only half complete. And that overall sums up the problem.

Why don't you get the game first then complain about it after when the rest of us will be away enjoying it so we don't have to listen to the same tiresome ********? :)

Remove that colourful word at once! :p

Don't want you getting in trouble over the whiners do we.

To the people moaning, if you dont like the game, dont buy it. That is the course of action if you are displeased with a product, crying on here wont change anything.

Is that even a swear word?! Filter says no. :p

Well ive got it! :D

Had about 3-4 horus on it and so far im really impressed, Ive done the training courses for the first 2 licenses, a few races on the beginner stages and one of the special stage races on the top gear track (camper van racing of all things). The cars really do feel like they are going at some pace, ive got a racing Micra which I won somewhere along what Ive already done and whilst itll top out at 130mph it still feels like your going at a right rate of knots.

Ive tested out the Zonda R and damn, hold onto your arses because its a right swine to drive on twisty tracks, particularly if you turn the TC off. Generally the mid range stuff feels the most fun to drive, the S2000 is great fun without being too much effort to drive quickly as you can keep it planted to for corners or kick the tail otu if you so wish.

My only worry is that Im not overly impressed with the selection of cars. I expected an insane collection of thousands of models of cars, and so far Im quite disappointed, for example the DB9 is there, but the DBS is not. Same with the Ferraris, the usual suspects are there but when I went looking for an FXX it wasnt there. Again with Shelby, I was hoping for somethign like the GR-1 or the Mustang, but nope, only the Cobra exists. Im sersiously hoping the showroom expands or ill be pretty disappointed.

The graphics are sublime, im not just saying that either, they really are that good and the scenery is spectacular. The cars themselves handle better than they did in the prologue versions, they somehow feel a bit more attached to the road than in prologue.

One thing I have a pretty big gripe over is with the disqualify system. Numerous times ive tried to do an agressive overtake thats sent me wide off the track and itll automatically end the race with you being DQ'd which I find totally rubbish, and again if you hit someone too hard in the race your DQ'd which is annoying when the AI drives into you!

Overall im very impressed, the races are good fun, albeit some are hard to get 1st and its the first console game Ive played since Forza 2 thats made me sit in front of a console for longer than 2 hours in a sitting.

Oh and finally, nto to disappoint again, but I cannot for the life of me find the top gear track in any of the race listings under practice mode or arcade mode, so I dont know if it needs unlocked or whether it can only be used during the license training and the special stages of career mode.......

Sooooooooooooooooo, whos gonna be the first to call me a liar about having it?

You sure thats not just for the licences? I've been playing it for 2 days and havnt been disqualified in one A spec race yet.

Haha perks of the job mate, as much as I hate working in retail for minimum wage, working for a rental company means I can rent things as soon as they arrive in store rather than having to wait for the release date :)

I do believe you, I just like pictures of Hovis + Tech stuff :(
