The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Just reinstalled and activated this 5 day re-trial again. Wanting to get into this again now, but honestly do not have a CLUE where to head or what to train for :(

Well when I started the account, I skipped the tutorial (not this current tutorial rubbish, the ORIGINAL tutorial, old school) I whored mining for a while and made a mint, which I found relaxing. Before I stopped the account though I was running missions, I love taking on the NPCs and watching things go bang, especially using the free Myrmidon I had, so would love to get back into that again! But hasn't the whole agent thing changed now? I've got no clue like I said!!

Well then, you do know what direction you want to take your character - Combat. By the sounds of it you are a Gallente pilot, so I'd put a priority on working on your drone and hybrid gun skills asap - With particular focus on the drone.

If you haven't already, download EveMON - It will help you planning skills etc. no end.

Agents haven't changed afaik, but I've never been much of a mission runner. You just talk to an agent you have standing for, they tell you to go do X, you do X, you get +standing and isk, rinse and repeat. Eventually you have enough standing for better agents, and so on.

Yup, Gallente ;)

I tried EveMON before I think, and never really got on that well with it, shall have to give it another go...

Thinking back I'm pretty certain I got to a point where the agent(s) I was using was quite crap in the sense that the rewards, even including salvaging, seemed tiny, yet I wasn't gaining enough standing in order to access better agents, it was like going round in a circle...

It really is a vital tool - You'll get a lot out of it. Give me a shout if you need a hand making a plan on it.

That isn't possible, you will of been gaining standings. Go to your character screen -> standings -> the corporation you are running missions for. In there, under the Agents tab, you can see the agents you have available to you, and those that aren't. You should try running the missions for the highest level agent that you can, as the rewards in both ISK and Standings will be better. Its also worth noting that the different departments of a corporation give more of certain mission types - Security is combat, industry is mining etc.

Really finding it hard to pick up from where I was, so I've gone back to the "new" tutorial section, ran through the basics again, and now following the Military tutorial agent line.
Still can't really get to grips with EVEMon, I understand what it does, and how useful it can be, but as I don't really know what to aim for, it's making it a little hard to decide what to plan...

Just before I stopped playing I was running around with a mate that was doing L3, maybe L4s as he was dual-boxing with his two accounts, I was just there to get rid of the smaller critters whilst he was nailing BSs, splitting salvage and loot etc. That's what I would love to get back into. I guess a decent corp would be the ideal starting point again, but 1.8m sp seems a little lacklustre to say the least, especially as I'm only starting to get to grips with it again.

Still looks amazing though :)

what's your in game name?

Got my primary account up on the 5 days free. Finishing off some Caldari Strat Cruiser skills to IV and a few gunnery specialisations to IV in the free days.

Payday next week so will get my 2nd account up and see where all my resources are if I dont get bored in the 5 free days on my main. Couldnt get the free 5 days to work on the 2nd account...

Have joined OCUK channel with my main so might see you on there.

lol took you long enough

Also back to the topic of the tutorial, the game of eve changes from time to time on so many different levels, of which the oldskool tutorial might have gone over in the past. However though now is most definitely rendered obsolete by the new one which gives you more of a head start in directions of which you may be interested in.

CCP are forever trying to bite size all aspects of eve to attract more players to the game which is never a bad thing right? There's even an implant u can get that speeds up your training now.

Also it's the only mmo i've ever played that is always evolving, which makes it great value for money in the long run.

Yeah between bouts of PS3 games and christmas shopping (all done now) I just have not found the time. Did feel good being back though last night. Upgraded my close as it appeared to have lapsed and had a quick jump around in my Jaguar.

I even managed to get the Mrs to try it over the weekend (14 day trial account) but she was not convinced. 4 hours of the tutorial and she just didnt click with the game.

Might try again though once I am on so at least I can show her some stuff.

There's always been implants to speed up your training :p

The biggest gripe all new players have is that they can never get as good as older players purely because all skills are time dependant. It's not entirely true, you can buy characters for isk off the forums but I understand their complaints. The new implant boosts all attributes and increases damage done by weapons. Only for the first 30 days and only if you buy the boxed version from a shop.

New patch is incoming, although the main feature - the incursions - are delayed until Jan. Which is fine if it's given proper testing.

I logged on for the first time in awhile last night nice to see my Nyx is in one piece ended up on my alt running level 4s made 100mill and logged off still can't seem to get back into the game.. same old same old.. :*(

There is a new implant that does it more than just standard learning implants though.
I'm sure someone else will remember what it was caused, but iirc it boosts your character in multiple ways for the first month of ingame play time after creating the account.

As to never catching up, I think people make that out to be worse than it potentially is - most old characters have there SP spread accross multiple areas, whilst if you just want to fly a single ship you should have no difficulties with flying it in near perfection within a year (within reason)
For example my Alt pilot is around 5 months old (7.1m SP) and can fly a Tengu to about 90-95% of its potential at a guess.

It would be unfair on long term players if new players could completely catch up though.
