Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

I found out what was killing my battery....I had BuzzBox news installed syncing every two hours. Uninstalled the app and now my battery seems much better!

Im getting confused on how to flash ROMs now. EG you need this you need that, all to confusing for my brain. lol

In short if your flashing a standard rom use Odin. If your putting a custom rom like darkys rom just flash it using clockwork recovery.

To installn that just download rom manager from market and install it that way.

Hope that helps a little bit:)

Ok Custom rom like darkys.

I can get into recovery mode (vol up / Home / On) but its e3 is that different to e2.

I have only used odin before. I have rooted via z4root and used super manager to back up my /efs folder.

3e is the standard 2.2 recovery and won't run custom unsigned update files. Before you can use clockworkmod you need 2e, via a standard 2.1 build or modified 2.2 kernel. Clockworkmod can be installed on the phone or ran as an update.zip from 2e recovery.

A mate is trying to update to 2.2 through kies at the moment but it's failing with a cryptoerror.

He has the latest version of kies etc but keeps getting it. Does anybody know how to solve this?

Oops forgot to mention that I was in a rush in my defence:o

Hope you have it all sorted now

If I'm using the clockwork recovery to install a custom rom, does it matter what is on the phone prior to the flash? Or does it overwrite everything?

Cheers

Its gone back to voda, some how killed it. I get no signal, and it does not want to play ball with any sim.
Could be a missing IMEI, did you backup the /efs folder before messing with it?

No doesn't matter, overwrites kernel etc.

Is there any hope (apart form taking it to samsung repair centre) for making my phone work after fully bricking it? No power on, no lights, no screens. Guess I picked the wrong file to flash to try and fix my 3-button-recovery. My G1 was much easier than this thing!

Alternatively anyone know how much they charge to fix? Am I best just telling them or blaming it on kies?

Got the 2.2 update and while parts are better have also noticed a lot more lag too. More annoying though is the home button. Mine now takes me back to the default twlauncher homescreen, even with launcher peo installed and set as default in the homeswitcher. Tis very annoying. Any ways to force it to stick with launcher pro?

Yes I did but I when I copied it back nothing worked.
Sounds like you've done what you can. Couple of things,

Does *#06# give a IMEI?
Does *#1234# give a PDA, Modem & CSC
Can you select a CSC (XEU) with *#272*IMEI#

When you copied the files over did you check the file system was mounted in R/W mode? Using ADB to push the files is the surest way of making sure they're going over.

There is a way of modifying a micro usb plug/cable with a resistor that will force the phone into download mode even if the buttons no longer respond > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551

Try

Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All

Clear defaults on twlauncher and set default on launcherpro.
