Hi Everyone, just after a little buying advice

I'm looking for a decent mount for my Logitech G25 Steering Wheel.

I don't want to pay over £100, I'm using a laptop stand atm that I bought from ikea ages ago and it's naff, I use it most on my PS3 and as GT5 is out this week I'm going to be using it loads.

Bearing in mind I need a mount to cater for the seperate gear shift, also something that stops the pedals from slipping forward would be good too.

Thanks

Hi foo, thanks for the info, that speedblack looks best, and just found at two well known outlets for quite a decent price.

I'll be ordering one :)

Cheers again

Pete

Does that Speedblack actually fold down with the wheel still attached (judging from the images on their site, it wouldn't)?

i've just ordered one!, the reviews for it look good, it's quite adjustable and as FooAtari says it's very stable.

Worse comes to worse I can always sell it on well known site if I don't like it :P

Further to my last, I've done a complete U-Turn and cancelled the Speedblack Evo and ordered the Wheel Stand pro Instead.

There was just one thing putting me off the Speedblack with the footrest being raised so high.

Fair do's. I quite like the height of the pedal mount. I have it higher that the lowest setting. I find pedals to low compared to my chair when on the floor. I also like to increase the angle of the pedals for more realistic feel.

To answer a question above, no the Speedblack does not fold down like the Wheelstand Pro does, it's definitely not as compact. You can only fold the pedals up.

Would there be any way of using the Wheelstand Pro and modifying it to change the footrest height and angle?

Ok, have tried to make my own, its ok, but definitely needs refinement. Tempted to just get that £70 speedblack one though

I posted this in the GT5 thread, but as far as wheel stands go, the Wheelstand Pro and Fanatec Rennsport stand are the two most popular/respected wheel stands that seem to stand up to review.

Both are ~£100, and both are work perfectly with the G25/G27 etc.

Here's a review of the pair, look at 17 mins and 25 mins for the two stands being commented on,

These guys use a lot of 'serious' sim kit, so I think they can be semi-trusted, they like both stands, but the Fanatec is sturdier (and the new V2 model is more adjustable, the one criticism in the review).

not sure i trust them that much tbh (not saying they lie, but i wouldn't take every comment they make as the holy grail). seems as they have gotten bigger now, they seem to be pretty tame in their reviews imo. ie they need suppliers to keep sending free samples for reviews and they get a lot more advertising than they started the show. conclusion, i would tend to trust the earlier episodes over the newer ones. i guess most review sites suffer the same fate as they become more popular. still a good place to view stuff and get some general info, but do more research on the products using as many different sources as you can.

Be nice to see some photos of some custom builds :)

My Wheelstand pro gets dispatched next week

I think the ulitimate stands are the playseats but they seemed to have doubled in price atm (I wonder why )

I was looking at a famous "Swedish" furniture store yesterday and they had a laptop stand called "Dave" that looks like it will take a steering wheel, looked a little on the thin side tho.

Looking forward to the Wheelstand pro but I think i'll start saving for a playseat when the GT5 hype goes down and so too the prices :D

D'oh, this belongs here:

Ok, got to Ver.2 of my DIY racing wheel stand, gonna do more work on it next week, but perfectly usable already.

First version (wobbles side to side)

Version 2:
Repositioning the board makes it much stiffer, and the pedals sit on the floor, not worth trying to put them on a platform.

2x £1 planks from IKEA's salvage bin, and £3 worth of brackets :)

I'll update next week, what do you think?
