A nifty trick if you fancy an extended holiday at the end of April next year!!

Just so I'm clear on this. Friday 22nd - Monday 25th is Easter holiday. Friday 29th is the royal wedding, so bank holiday and Monday 2nd May is a bank holiday?

If this is correct I could use 5 of my holiday days and get 9 days?

No, you would use 3 days holiday to get 11 days off in a row. (Includes 2 weekends and 4 bank holidays).

Yeah , this is how my end of April works out.

Friday - April 22nd - Bank Holiday
Saturday - Off
Sunday - Off
Monday - April 25th - Bank Holiday
Tuesday - Work
Wednesday - Work
Thursday - Work
Friday - April 29th - Bank Holiday
Saturday - Off
Sunday - Off
Monday - May 2nd - Bank Holiday.

For a teacher its even better as the 2 weeks leading up to April 22nd is the Easter school holiday (at least where I am), so thats absolutely stacks of time "off", especially if conveniently "ill" on the Tues, Weds, Thurs in the middle. Effectively being off from April 11th to May 3rd.

You are not taking 11 days, you are taking 4.

I think his point is that if your company 'forces' you to take Bank Holidays on the actual day, then using 4 days holiday allowance to make it up to 11 is a good idea.

But if your company 'donates' the Bank Holidays into your allowance, allowing you to take them at any time (like my company does), then you're better off working the Bank Holidays and keeping them and your 4 days holiday. Then you can put them all towards an equivalent 11 day holiday at a quieter period in the year.

Hope I can get these days off. Will I get negative karma if I dont tell my workmates about this?

:(

Hmmm....oh bleh I''ll buy em beers if I get it :D

Bank holidays and weekends mean nothing in my job unfortunately. No choice in the matter if rota'd onto a bank holiday, and not even 1.5x pay lol.

I'd like to moan about it, but it does make sense. If I owned a business, why the hell would I want to shut down for a random day in the middle of the year and lose money.

I don't know how many of you guys work in the IT industry as contractors, but if you do you'll probably agree with me so many bank holidays next year in April are certainly going to have an effect on profits.
